Itsukushima Shrine
A World Heritage site. Established in the 6th century, this shrine is one of Japan's finest, and is famous for its beautiful Shinden-zukuri style structure (architecture representative of a nobles' residence in the Heian period). The contrast of the green of Mt. Misen behind the lacquered shrine pavilion and the blue of the Seto Sea is beautiful and evocative of the underwater palace of Ryugujo.

The guide Masako was excellent, she spoke about the local culture and heritage as she was a native. The tour itself was very well structured and the organization was on point.

Masako was a polite, well informed and efficient guide. The day felt rushed because of the distance & the 2 sights covered - not a criticism but a fact. One recommendation - provide hotel pick up - too stressful to come to the station & find the travel agents . Otherwise a fabulous day seeing a unesco world heritage sight - Itsukushima shrine, floating Tori gate, Atomic bomb & Hiroshima peace memorial park.

We enjoyed the tour. It was very informative. One suggestion is an option at the Museum to get or rent the audio tour. It would have been much more informative.
