This was the coolest experience of my 3 week trip to Australia. The animal sanctuary trip was a highlight in itself. Was able to photograph an awake kaula on the way out without others crowding me. The bird show is not to be missed. But the puffing steam train was the best! The train was full of people hanging outside the train. Never seen anything like it it. The trip was about an hour going through forest, neighborhood, highway crossing, etc. lots to photograph from the train. People watching us pass waved, smiled and had their phones out. Some cars pulled off the road to wave and take photos. Even people in cars at the railway crossing were smiling.

It’s very beautiful, antique, and eye-catching, but it’s quite long and feels like a waste of time if you book the full trip. It starts at 11 a.m. and returns to Belgrave around 5 p.m. The fun part is over within the first hour, and then it gets quite boring. Make sure to bring food with you and wear warm clothing.

I gave 2 stars based on the history and train itself. However, our tour guide was the worst. She was rude and unprofessional, yelling at the customers. She didnt even apologize after she was informed of her bad behavior. I wouldn't recommend with that particular guide.

10/14/2025 She was good until she wasn’t. She drives the bus wild, I felt sick once I arrived to our destination even Life360 said our trip was dangerous. When we got to puffing Billy train ride she came into our cart yelling telling us to squeeze ourselves together so they a couple could get into our cart. We were the only people of a different race on that train and we were full already. She then threw her hands up calling us inconsiderate when she never approached any other group there. Then two monitors were placed on our train ride after her blow up as though to watch us. She made our trip unbearable. Her oral hygiene really bad. Poor behavior was not what I wanted to remember from our Australian trip. I guess people of different race are treated unfairly even across the globe.

Super fun day!! Matt, my tour guide was very friendly and informative. I got to see some amazing views of the country side, the wildlife in Melbourne, and the train ride was very enjoyable!

We visited 2 places, the healsville sanctuary, which is boring, and the billy train went up to hill. The trip is a bit too long and no lunch time. Btw Ken is a nice tour leader. He also stopped by to show us a huge tree in the small jungle along the way…like 10 mins walking. Overall it is OK only, too simple but the trip on the road is tiring.
