Akagera National Park
Visitors to Akagera can expect to encounter a wide variety of plains game, including majestic elephants, formidable buffalo herds, graceful topi, striking zebras, and various antelope species such as waterbuck, roan antelope, and eland. Smaller antelope species also abound, with duiker, oribi, bohor reedbuck, klipspringer, bushbuck, and impala frequently spotted throughout the park. Primate enthusiasts will delight in observing olive baboons and vervet monkeys during daylight hours, while the more secretive blue monkey may reward patient observers. Akagera's ecosystem supports a range of predators, including the stealthy leopard, opportunistic hyena, and side-striped jackal. The recent reintroduction of lions has added an exciting dimension to the park's predator population. In a significant conservation effort, plans are underway to reintroduce the black rhino, which will restore Akagera's prestigious 'Big 5' status, further enhancing its appeal as a premier safari destination.

Remember, we saw the Big 5. Great luxury hotel ( Mantis ) in Akagera Park. The boat trip with sunset is recommended as well as the sunrise.

Great family experience, very good contact with Kevin our English speaking guide but who manages a little in French and who quickly becomes the darling of the children. The night at the lakeside campsite with the sounds of the night and the proximity of the hippos was an incredible experience, and the next day the search for the big 5 a quest that Kevin will have almost completely completed since we will only miss the leopard. Next time, surely!
