Maputo Special Reserve was once known has The Elephant Reserve, and it is one of the “Pearls” that Mozambique has to offer. It was created in the 60’s and saw the animal populations decrease during the civil war. This magic place is reborn with a new strength. The animals are coming back, specially the Paquiderms, through eco corridors between South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique. The Reserve, one of the least known places in the World, will give you an unforgettable experience with the huge Landscape variety, where the Indian Ocean marine Ecosystems mix with the typical African plains and even dense forests.

I did this tour with my boyfriend in February. We had the best experience in the park! The team is super generous and trying hard to show you as much as possible and give you the best service. We did not only experience a great safari tour but also a campsite next to a paradisiacal beach. They also cooked amazing traditional food.

The uniqueness of a safari experience together with a swim in the paradise beaches of the Maputo Special Reserve. The team is knowledgeable and fun to be with. Fully and truly recommend!

If you are looking for a more relaxed 'safari' tour this is for you. This is a wonderful two day tour through Maputo's Special Reserve with lots of down time to relax and enjoy the beach. And what a beach!! We had a great time with Pedro and Ernesto and will do it again when family arrives for vacation.

My wife and I were treated to an incredible 2-day tour of Maputo Special Reserve with Pedro and his assistant, Ernesto. Pedro and his brother-in-law own the company and have thought of everything for this tour. We were picked up at the front door of our hotel in Maputo on day 1, and provided with a light breakfast for the drive. It was several hours to the park entrance. Once we entered the park, we immediately spotted zebras, warthogs, and impalas. Throughout the day we encountered giraffes, raptors, wildebeest, duikers, nyalas, countless bird species including two species of stork, hippopotamuses, elephants, monkeys, blue bottles, and dung beetles. Once we arrived at our campsite on the beach we spotted humpback whales breaching off shore! Everything at camp was set up for us by Pedro and Ernesto while we relaxed/hiked along the deserted beach and swam in the Indian Ocean. Lunch, dinner, breakfast, and then lunch again on day 2 were all very filling and delicious. We were lucky to be the only individuals on this tour and really enjoyed getting to know Pedro and Ernesto. The tour was very personalized and had a great balance of structured time and unstructured opportunities to relax, explore, etc. We cannot say enough good things about our experience with Mabeco Tours, and will absolutely book them again on a future trip to southern Africa! Obrigado, Pedro and Ernesto!

See animals in a most natural setting, camp with a gorgeous overview of the Indian Ocean on a most pristine beach, and be pampered, pampered, pampered with an ex-pat from Portugal who speaks English to perfection and runs a tour the same way. Every detail is tended to in this bushcamp experience and one's stomach never has a need for more. We spent 8 days in Kruger Park right before this experience and loved our animal sightings there in South Africa, but the big difference is seeing animals in their true unadulterated homes in Mozambique's Special Reserve. There are no predators in the reserve, but the beautiful scenery is also completely different from Kruger. Camping next to the Indian Ocean and enjoying the relaxing evening was special. Pedro fed us constantly and even served up gin and tonics at sunset. He is highly informative with his master's degree in nature and adventure tourism and there is no doubt he is there to please his clients. Everyone in our group, from the 22 year old all the way to the 90 year old had their expectations exceeded, thanks to Pedro's precise planning and sense of humor.

We went on the overnight safari with Pedro in the special reserve in September and we had THE MOST AMAZING TIME! Everything was thought of, there was nothing that I would have done differently. Pedro and his team were incredible, booking was easy, emails were prompt and we were picked up on time from our hotel. Breakfast was provided on route to the reserve and we arrived at 8.30am. We saw almost every animal it was possible to see and even saw elephants mating so we felt incredibly lucky!! Pedro knew exactly where to look and how far away to be. We felt so safe and so happy in this untouched truly natural reserve. Gin and tonic at sunset, a delicious lunch and dinner, camping in the most incredible location. We couldn't quite believe where we were or what we were experiencing. I honestly cannot recommend this enough, it is a trip we will never forget! After the days in the reserve, we organised to go to Maceneta beach for 2 nights. Again, incredible. We had a lovely relaxed time and it was so nice to know that our transport there and back and the organisation of it all was sorted. Such a nice place to spend a couple of days. Yes, it seems like a lot of money but it was worth every single penny. Pedro was so knowledgable, accommodating and friendly and I will be recommending Mabeco Tours to everyone. Thank you again, we had THE BEST time!! Rebecca & Matthew

I cannot stress enough that everyone should do this trip with Mabeco Tours. This untouched wild park truly is a magical place. From the moment we were picked up to the moment we were dropped off we didn’t lift a finger. Pedro was an excellent guide. You can tell he loves his job and the reserve. He made us feel special. As an added bonus while relaxing at the campsite on the beach, humpback whales started breaching right in front of us. It was already a perfect trip but this made it extra special. My only regret is that we didn’t book the 3 day tour. If we are ever in Maputo again we will definitely book with Mabeco.
