  What an amazing experience. The tour was fantastic. Our guides Nico and Idris were kind, strong, helpful, delightful and excellent guides. They made the tour so enjoyable. Our small group ate the most delicious food. Thank you to the chef and all the jungle team. We saw 7 orangutans and so many monkeys. The jungle was extraordinary. Green, wild and so tropical. It was an unforgettable tour. Hard walking at times up hills but swimming in the river and camping at the end of the day was magical. An amazing trip an amazing tour and the most magnificent animals …. Absolutely loved it. The orangutans are mesmerizing …

• An amazing stay with heart in the jungle

  From day one, it was a very well-organized stay. We were taken to the guesthouse with our luggage. Here, we were warmly welcomed with a dreamy jungle backdrop by the river and butterfly tea. Dinner was offered very well. Everything tasted great. We were explained the rules for the trekking tour and given a guest gift. Thank you for the joy. The following day, our guide Heri greeted us along with Pian. We spent 3 days and 2 nights in the jungle with another couple. Heri is an extremely good and wonderful professional guide with several years of experience in jungle trekking. I can only say that he accompanied me extremely safely through this jungle with a broken ankle from 5 years ago. Pian is the trainee and is also very caring and a great companion. I give both 6 out of 5 stars. I would always travel with them again, as everything was organized very safely and wonderfully. The food and the tour were incredibly great. We saw more than 6 orangutans with their babies with Heri. All the other animals, including Thomas monkeys, gibbons, black monkeys, and hornbills. Jan, our chef, cooked like a star chef.   One of the most amazing experience we ever had! We went for three days and two nights in the jungle and we highly recommend this because the second camp is really outstanding with the big river right next to it. Our guides, Nico, Bedu and our cooker Mbape are absolutely the bests!! They are careful, funny, super nice and very aware of our needs. The meals were all very good, and the sharing diner were also super nice. Best fruits ever! The lodge where we stayed before going in the jungle is perfect and the staff is so nice! On the top of everything, we saw so much animals we couldn’t imagine better than this. The ethical way our guides respect and listen to the nature is so pleasant and reassuring.   We had the greatest experience on the 2 days 1 night jungle trek. We had the best guides we could wish for: Didi and Harry. They gave a lot of information and made sure the group had everything we needed. We saw 10 Orangutans in only 2 days! We met as strangers and left the jungle as a group of friends.   An absolutely incredible and unforgettable experience! We spent 2 days and 1 night in the jungle and were able to observe many monkeys. Our guides Dian and Ricky were great: kind, funny, attentive to our needs and pace. They shared their knowledge about orangutans and the other monkeys we encountered, and answered all our questions!   Let us start with a brief conclusion in advance: The jungle trekking is truly challenging, but every effort and sacrifice is absolutely worth it. My wife and I booked a complete package with transportation, accommodation, and a 2D/1N jungle trek directly with Sumatra Orangutan Explore (SOE). Communication via email was smooth from the very beginning, and we received a tailored offer at a very fair price. Upon our arrival at the airport, we were greeted by our driver—the adventure began immediately. The approximately four-hour drive to Bukit Lawang is adventurous due to the road conditions, but it was always safe thanks to the new minivan and the knowledgeable driver from SOE. On the way, we made a stop to buy a SIM card and withdraw cash. In Bukit Lawang, we switched to motorcycles and were taken to the jungle lodge (alternatively, a short walk of 10–15 minutes would have been possible). There, we were welcomed with cold tea, received a detailed briefing about the trek (including small gifts), and settled into our room. The accommodation was very comfortable and well-equipped, including hot water. Not all accommodations from SOE and in Bukit Lawang have hot water. Occasional power outages should be factored in when considering this remote region. The food at the lodge's restaurant was also recommended, although the portions were somewhat small. On the second day, we spontaneously participated in a cooking class. Together with our chef Idscha, we took a Tuk-Tuk to the local market, bought ingredients, and then prepared dishes like lemongrass iced tea, chicken and tempeh rendang, gado-gado, and pandan-coconut pancakes at her home – a wonderful and very heartfelt experience. Thank you very much for your hospitality, Idscha! The following day, our jungle trekking began with guides Yahya and Jaka. Already in the first hour, we saw various species of monkeys as well as an orangutan mother with her baby. The hike was challenging and required good footing, but it was more than rewarded by fantastic wildlife observations and interesting explanations about the lifestyle of orangutans. Around 3:00–4:00 PM, we reached our jungle camp, idyllically located by a river. The accommodation is simple but functional – with mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows, and mosquito nets in open huts, as well as basic toilet huts with Western toilets. Each trekking group sleeps together in one hut here. After coffee, tea, and cookies, a fantastic, hearty dinner followed. Afterward, Jaka entertained us with magic tricks and puzzles before the rain drove us to our sleeping places. After a short night, we started early with breakfast for the second day of trekking. This section was also demanding, but once again sweetened by wildlife observations and a break with tropical fruits. Around 1:00 PM, we reached the starting point for the return trip. A special highlight was once again an orangutan mother with her two young ones. The return trip to Bukit Lawang took place after a delicious lunch with the 'jungle taxi' as a small rafting tour – a perfect conclusion. Back at the lodge, we settled into our room, took a refreshing shower, used the laundry service (for a fee), and let the day end relaxed before heading to the airport the next day. Those who value an ethically responsible jungle tour are exactly right with SOE. Yahya and Jaka consistently maintained minimum distances from the animals and reminded other participants as well. Additionally, care was consistently taken to leave no trash in the jungle and to carry everything back. Plastic was largely avoided. A big thank you and our full respect to our guides Yahya and Jaka – we still do not know how you carry all the food through the jungle each time while maintaining your good mood. We were already well occupied with our luggage. @Jaka: Good luck on your exam!

  Really great experience. Friendly and helpful guides who lead you each step of the way and make you laugh. They prepared everything for our comfort and made sure we were good with everything- hard parts of the trek, water breaks, lunch, snacks, tea, etc. Explained so much about each part of what we were seeing.
