Cappadocia

Our driver will pick you up from the Istanbul hotel and transfer you to the airport for the Cappadocia flight at the time you are informed in advance. We pick you up from any Istanbul hotel for the transfer and this pick-up time is usually around 5.30. You will be at the Cappadocia airport around 9 pm and our driver will meet you. After the transfer to your hotel in Cappadocia, you will be offered free breakfast. After breakfast, we start a wonderful day in Cappadocia.

Avanos

The Kizilirmak (red) river (ancient Halys river) is the longest river in Turkey and it does not only separate the town from other parts of Cappadocia, but also gives the supplies the clay for pottery. It is by this river that the red pottery clay is found from which Avanos derives its main livelihood and its foremost claim to fame. Pottery has been produced in the Avanos area for centuries and some of the techniques still used date back to Hittite times to 2000 BC. The Hittites named the town "Zu Wanes" and it became "Venessa" during the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire.

Uchisar

Uchisar is situated at the highest point in Cappadocia, on the Nevsehir-Goreme road, just 5 km from Goreme. The top of the Uchisar Castle, provides a magnificent panorama of the surrounding area with Mount Erciyes in the distance. Many rooms hollowed out into the rock are connected to each other with stairs, tunnels and passages. At the entrances of the rooms, there are millstone doors, just like the ones in the underground settlements, used to control access to these places. Due to the erosion in places of this multi-leveled castle, it is unfortunately not possible to reach all the rooms. Most of the rooms, located on the north side of the castle are in use as pigeon houses (dovecuts) today. Farmers used these cave pigeon houses to collect the droppings of pigeons which is an excellent natural fertilizer for the orchards and vineyards.

Devrent Valley

Devrent Valley, which is also known as Imaginary Valley and also as Pink Valley does not have cave churches like the other valleys of Cappadocia. There are no Roman castles or Roman tombs in Devrent Valley, either. Actually it was never inhabited. So what makes it so famous? The lunar landscape! Devrent Valley (also spelled as Dervent Valley) reveals many different rock formations and is only a 10 minute drive from Goreme. The small fairy chimneys in the valley form a lunar landscape, or moonscape, by their strange look. The valley also has many animal shaped rocks. It looks like a sculpture zoo made by nature. Some of the most important, or the easiest seen animal shapes are camel, snake, seals, and dolphin. If you let your imagination run free you will find many others. It is like looking at clouds and seeing a dragon. There is even a rock pillar which looks like Virgin Mary, holding Jesus Christ.

Pasabag Vadisi

Pasabag in Cappadocia is located on the road to Zelve, coming from Goreme or Avanos. Highly remarkable earth pillars can be seen here, in the middle of a vineyard, hence the name of the place which means: the Pacha's vineyard. Pacha means "General", the military rank, in Turkish and it is a very common nick name. This site is also called Monks Valley. The name was derived from some cones carved in tuff stones which stand apart. Currently, there is a vineyard and a number of tuff cones standing right next to the road.A chapel dedicated to St. Simeon (Simon), and a hermit's shelter is built into one of the fairy chimneys with three heads. The entrance of the cell is decorated with antithetical crosses. Saint Simeon was living in seclusion near Aleppo in the 5th century, when rumors that he made miracles started to spread. Disturbed by all the attention, he began to live at the top of a 2m high column, and later moved to one 15m in height.

Goreme Panorama

Urgup

Fairy chimneys, cone-shaped formation of rain, wind and flood waters by eroding the structure of tuffs. There are rock blocks on the tops of these tower-shaped formations. These rocks, formed by abrasion caused by natural factors, are mostly seen in the Cappadocia region. It is also available as well as sporadic in many parts of Turkey.

Red Valley

Red Valley (Kizilcukur) is one of the best places to watch the sunrise and sunset in Cappadocia. Cavusin

Cavusin is literally in the middle of Cappadocia with Goreme. These two little towns are only four kilometers away from each other. It takes less than an hour to reach from one village to another on foot with the company of spectacular Cappadocia views. Cappadocia’s popular volcanic landscape is surrounded by three cities. Uchisar marks the Western, Urgup marks the Eastern, and Avanos marks the Northern corner of Cappadocia. Cavusin and Goreme are located in the middle of this triangle in the South of Avanos. After a five-kilometer drive from Avanos to South, you will reach Cavusin village and another four kilometers will take you to Goreme. This accessibility made Cavusin very popular lately among travelers interested in photography, hiking, and the landscape of Cappadocia.

Ozkonak Underground City

Ozkonak underground city is built under the hill known as the Citadel of Ozkonak and was opened to visitors in 1964. The people of Ozkonak (Enegup in Greek) village have constructed their houses around nearly one hundred tunnels of the underground city. The inhabitants of the region still use the most convenient places in the tunnels as cellars, storage areas and stables, which they access through their courtyards. The Ozkonak Underground City has low, narrow and sloping passages. While the underground city consists of 8 floors below ground, only 4 of them are open to the public today, in which the spaces are organized around ventilation shafts.

Pigeon Valley

Pigeon Valley (Güvercinlik Vadisi) earned its name from the countless man made dovecotes (Pigeon Houses) that have been carved into the soft volcanic tuff. Since ancient times Pigeons have been used in the Cappadocia region for food and fertiliser for the infertile soil. While pigeons no longer play such an important role in the area, their rocky homes have still been maintained by locals and can be found atop rock pillars and inside excavated cave houses and churches throughout the region, however, they are particularly numerous in this valley. A great way to see Pigeon Valley is from Uchisar. Tours leave every morning just before sunrise so you will already be floating above the stunning landscape as the sun comes up.

Ortahisar

Ortahisar means "middle castle," and as its name implies, it is central among the Cappadocian towns of Goreme, Urgup, Uchisar and Nevsehir, and only a few kilometers from the Goreme Open Air Museum. When entering the town, you will notice doors in the rock surfaces on both sides. These doors are the best example of the cool-air storages in Cappadocia. In these natural air-conditioned rooms, lemons and oranges from the Mediterranean region, apples from Nigde, local potatoes, quinces and onions are stored. Green lemons slowly turn yellow in these store-rooms. Ortahisar is famous for its friendly inhabitants, picturesque stone houses, narrow streets and lovely churches as well as the castle-like rock formation after which the town is named.
