The hill was an outside sanctuary, originally the seven temples, and each temple on a different hill; the Sun, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and Mercury. More investigation revealed this was a grave monument and sacred area which is thought to be a representation of Mare-late, the Lord of Gods, with those praying to the centre of the hill similar to modern prayers towards Mecca. This isn't your typical leisure tourism trip; it's more of a technical and educational visit that requires local guides, preferably archaeologists with a good track record. Taha Ozyavuz is the perfect person to lead this tour of these recent discoveries that have led us to stories spanning over 11,000 years (Stonhedge is 6,000 years old). His expertise made this long-awaited trip to Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe a reality, where he demonstrated his extensive knowledge. Another member of his professional team, Mehmet Ali, led the visit to the impressive Archaeological Museum of Çanlıurfa—the largest in Turkey—as well as a tour exploring the history of the prophet Abraham, the unmissable visit to the first university in history in the town of Harran, and the tour of the Ogival tribal houses. 100% recommended for ease of transportation, language skills, knowledge, and safety throughout the tours.

The itinerary, customized to our needs, was very enjoyable and comfortable. During the two-day guided tour, we thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing around Karahantepe, Göbekli Tepe, a Euphrates River cruise, and the Balik Göl area. Both guides, Taha on the first day and Yusuf on the second day, were reliable. The driver also drove safely, so we felt at ease during the ride. I would definitely use their services again if I have the opportunity.

Did a 2 day tour with Taha's company. Day 1 was a tour of Nemrut mountain. It is a 2-3 hr drive from Sanliurfa, but well worth it. It does require some climbing, but once you get to the top where the statues are placed, it is amazing. To think this was done close to 2000 years ago is simply stupendous. It can get cold up there, so dress warm. The guide that Taha provided was excellent! Be sure to stop by for lunch at Damlick (spelling ?) camping resort. It is well worth it. Day 2: Was a tour of Gobekli Tepe with Taha, the company owner. It was on my bucket list. It is truly a mind blowing site- to think that humans built this almost 12,000 years ago!! Taha was a very knowledgeable and engaging guide. We truly enjoyed it!

  • A Dream Come True

My husband and I had the trip of a lifetime earlier this week with Taha Qzyavur of Gobekli Tepe. We’d been wanting to visit Gobekli Tepe for almost 20 years and Taha made sure we felt like our dream had come true. For starters, all the logistics of getting to and from the airports went super smoothly, so it was a delightfully hassle free experience. Under Taha’s expert guidance and with the benefit of his vast knowledge of ancient history of Mesopotamia and his love of archaeology, we learned far more about the contents and significance of Gobekli Tepe than we would have on a group tour. He was also able to fill in some “cracks” about the site that are not in most guide books or online. For example, the mound Gobekli Tepe is on is artificial and was the result of the original builders burying the structures under many layers of dirt, so they would not be damaged or destroyed by people who came after them. Another unique highlight of our tour included a delightful surprise visit to a fabulous weaving cooperative supported by the European Union. There we had the privilege of seeing hundreds of gorgeous carpets made by young women from local villages, who receive training in how to make Turkish carpets using the ancient methods and, thereby, a viable livelihood. Suffice it to say we will never forget what we saw and learned through Taha’s tour, which broadened our perspective and enriched our understanding of the evolution of human civilization. THANK YOU TAHA!

Taha and the team were excellent! we recieved great communication prior to arrival with flights transfers and pickups. Once we arrived in Şanlıurfa we were in great hands, we went straight into seeing the sights on our intinery that was arranged for us prior to arrival. Gobeklitepe and all the other historical locations were amazing, with great insights from our guides on the history and information on the places we visited. All the restaurants had wonderful food and great views at some places we stopped. I would highly recommend Taha and the team to take great care of you and your travel companions.

We were so relieved to find one of Taha‘s tours, specifically for Gobeklitepe. Our original provider canceled our trip 14 hours before it was to begin. Taha stepped in and was able to accommodate us the very next day. Each transition went very smoothly. Taha and his staff have excellent knowledge of the local area, culture, history, and all the details about the archaeological site of Gobeklitepe. He knew some of the archaeologists, and I would highly suggest his informative tour. I learn a lot from both Taha and our driver, Mehmet. Unfortunately, my husband had a slight medical issue by the end of our tour. Mehmet, took care of us immediately and made sure we got back to the airport safe and sound. This is a very professional tour group and well worth booking.

A big thank you to Mr. Taha and his team . We had a great time and did some many things that would not have been easy to do without a professional guide and private transport. The depth of knowledge provided by our guide made our trip amazing. We toured Göbekli tepe, Karahan tepe, Şanlıurfa and other historical sites nearby. I would definitely recommend Göbekli Tours to everyone and I will be using their services on my next trip to this beautiful part of Turkey.
