I absolutely loved this trek with tour guide whose name is "Gaat". Gaat was a wealth of knowledge and taught me about Rwandan culture at every turn, answering all my questions with great English. He also had everything organized for me and was always looking out for me so I didn't have to lift a finger. Constantly so much attention and effort from him in making my experience memorable. The chimp experience was exciting too, which was an active hike where you essentially wander through the forrest following around the chimps. On the actual chimp hike there are chimp guides and trackers who's sole job is to find the chimps and lead you around there. At the end of the chimp hike, your trip guide, who was Gaat in this case is waiting for you with the car and water :) The hotel we stayed at the night before the chimp hike was also really cool as it was atop a scenic tea plantation, and the rooms were all bungalows in the style of ancient King's palace. Lake Kivu was also really cool. I was initially nervous about safety before arriving, but Gaat assured me it was safe, and it truly was. There were no signs of violence on the lake, and it was an absolutely stunning place to arrive to after the big chimp hike. We got a chance to go swimming, and go on a boat tour. The hotel this cute litte bungalow right on the water. Had lots of time in the car to get to know Gaat and he is such a cool and genuine guy to be around, which really made the trip outstanding for me. I normally don't write reviews, but Gaat earned it! Thank you Yambi and Gaat!!
