It was a very nice trip, well organized with a super guide who brings us to see wild life and extraordinary places. I enjoy the camp and sleeping in the swag close to nature. The group was small and I met Lovely people. We had nice dinners all together. I highly recommend this 3 days trip on Kangaroo Island.

Have wanted to go to Kangaroo Island (K I) for a long time, obviously it's a long drive to Kangaroo Island from the Gold Coast, so I was looking for a tour to do out of Adelaide (after flying there). This on paper was by far the best value for money, and to make it even cheaper, if I booked another Untamed Escapes tour at the same time, I got a massive discount on the Kangaroo Island tour (as long as booked both through their own website) I booked the Eyre Peninsular/Flinders Ranges six day tour departing two nights after returning from this one. So what was the K I tour like? It was excellent. Eli was our guide, he was passionate about K I, a very friendly young hardworking guy and always willing at any time of the day or night to answer any question or help out in any way. Also a great cook for the simple meals provided. The only time I actually spent money was buying the odd bottle of soft drink from an IGA or on the final night before we boarded the ferry back to the mainland, we ate at a pub. Not the best pub, no wifi, charges an unAustralian Sunday surcharge. Everywhere we shopped (others bought souvenirs and stuff at some of the places we stopped) takes credit card so you don't need cash. What kind of places did we stop? Well the highlights were Stokes Bay, where you squeeze through gaps in the cliff/rocks to get to an awesome isolated beach, where even a couple of dolphins turned up. Remarkable Rocks were extremely photogenic. Admiral's Arch was a really cool looking cave with New Zealand fur seals jumping out of the breaking waves. Seal Bay was my favourite visit of the tour, where we saw sea lions (yep I know the place is called Seal Bay but they're sea lions, and a particularly rare type, with this one of the few breeding colonies left). Accompanied by an informative park ranger we went down to the beach where they were, and learnt a lot about them. Plus got some cool photos. We visited a heap of other places too. But where did we stay? Untamed leases a house for want of better word and some land on a farm (the island is mostly farms by the way) which has its own private isolated beach access. So you put your bags in the house where you also have normal toilets and there's a kitchen where some of the meals are prepared and eaten in or outside the house thing. You can have hot showers there, but you do need to remember to bring your towel. I forgot to pack mine but bought one in Kmart in Adelaide's Rundle Mall for $2.50 before the trip. You sleep in provided swags, and are also provided with a camping mattress that goes inside them. Very comfortable sleep. You bring your own sleeping bag but it was really too hot to do anything but sleep on top of it. These swags were really high quality (Oztrail), you can zip it up in a way that has you looking through a fly screen so you can see the stars, and the mosquitoes trying to get to you. It's basically like a small tent. Yep bring some insect repellent, but they are that bad there. You'll also want to bring suntan lotion of course to reapply throughout the days. You do a fair amount of walking/swimming each day, but you don't need to be superfit or anything like that. It's a pretty laid back tour where you have time to take things in at each destination. I did the optional swim with seals thing, unfortunately no one else from the group did it too. It would be nice to have some sort of way to communicate with others who have booked this tour on the same starting date so you can try and convince them to do the seal snorkel, and to even hang out if in Adelaide earlier than the tour. I stayed at the YHA in Adelaide, it was pretty good and only a block from the bus station where this tour begins. There are other hostels nearby the starting point too.

  • We saw the best of Kangaroo Island with an excellent guide and comfortable accommodation

This was a really great trip to do with our family with 2 older teenaged kids. Steve our guide was great - driving us to so many fabulous places on the island, giving great commentary, cooking up tasty meals and generally facilitating an excellent trip. The accommodation was in comfortable single mini tents (‘swags’) outside of a substantial chalet where we ate and socialised. Compared with a ‘DIY’ trip as a family to Kangaroo Island it was also good value and much easier to organise. Highly recommended!

  • Amazing experience, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

It was an adventure I'll never forget. I set out alone, not knowing who I'd meet, but it turned out to be the best choice! We spent three days discovering the wonders of Kangaroo Island, seeing the entire southern and northern parts, but not only. We spent three days touring the island with our fantastic guide Eli. Everything was perfect, We slept in single tents that have a mattress inside, which were also perfect. A sleeping bag is recommended but you can also rent one, otherwise it could get cold at night without one, we also swam in the crystal-clear ocean, saw all the beautiful animals Australian nature has to offer:kangaroos of course, kolas, lizards, sea lions and dolphins, and all its stunning landscapes. The cost was more than justified; it's an experience I recommend to everyone! Kudos to Eli and Untamed Escapes for their organization and professionalism.

Thank you Chris, for making our 3 day Kangaroo Island tour be such an immersive experience! My daughter and I met with our guide Chris and our other three tour mates (from Canada, The Nederlands, and Taiwan) in Adelaide for this 3D-jewelry-like aussie adventure at Kangaroo Island. We slept in swags under a tree, home to Cakatoos and Galahs, and a full moon. We could hear the white caps further east and a thunderstorm approaching. Curious wallabies hopped around our swags in the early mornings. Camp sites provided us good shelter from the sun and the wind, letting us relaxing with deliciuos and healthy wraps for our lunches. At our camp, Chris barbequed and cooked lasagna and tortellini, with extra deliciuos Chris’s tomato home made sauce! I recon it can be “scary”, when you realize that you’re going to cook for Italians on your tour! We had a girl-chat&orienteering walk along the coast, touching the white of the sand and the light blue of the shore water, while the boys had our dinner ready! The last night a very competitive UNO challenge among the youngest members of the group took place, while the others enjoyed a message, listened to music and cleaned up! Chris drove us along paved as well as gravel roads to astonishing places, from sandy beaches with calm water, to scary cliffs with waves smashing hard against them, from eucaliptus oil distillery, to golden crop fields, from sealions, to seals, from dolphins to kangaroos, from lighthouses, to granite “dinosaurs”, from burnt limestone hills to green, thick bush areas...

  • A great experience!

It was a great esperience. Even though I'm eleven years old, the way that Chris, our guide delivered the information was great. We traveled all around the island in 3 days to visit the main, and most beautiful places. Overall, the length of the visit was perfect. It was a nice and friendly group that wasn't big and crowded. It was really fun seeing animals like dolphins, sea lions, seals, kangaroos, wollabies, koala, lizards and different types of birds. Not to mention the breath-taking beaches and land-formations. The food was nice and a variety of everything. If you didn't like something there you could eat something else you could choose from. Sleeping in the swags (tents) was fun and cool, a really nice and one in a lifetime experience. (Thankyou Chris!) ALUEL

Beautiful natural views, but sadly we haven't seen lots of wild animals closely. Our guide Hanna is very helpful, she gave us a nice tour. In these 3 days we explored almost every spots on the kangaroo island, and had swag camping at night. Anyways, it was a great fun experience. The only thing little bit annoying is that there are so many flies everywhere, I was fighting with them almost all the way...
