What To Expect
Day 1: Semera – Erta Ale Volcano (320 km)

Danakil Depression
You will be picked up in the morning either at the airport or at your hotel in Mekele. Afterwards we drive on an asphalted road until we reach the vicinity of the Erta Ae volcano. We will have a small snack and then set off on foot. The trekking to the summit takes only about 1 hour. Our equipment and food will be brought to the crater rim by camels. There we spend the night with spectacular views of the dramatic spectacle of the glowing lava. Erta Ale is 613 meters high, its diameter is about 30 km and the caldera at the summit covers an area of about 1 km2. It is the only permanent lava lake in the world.
Day 2: Erta Ale Volcano – Lake Afrera – Hamed Ela

Morning: After a spectacular sunrise over the lava lake we start our descent down to the vehicles from where we will continue to lake Afrera. Here we can not only admire the traditional way of the local salt mining but also freshen up and recover from the trekking in natural hot springs. Afternoon: We continue to the camp in Hamed Ela, where we will spend the night.
Day 3: Hamed Ela – Dallol

Morning: Early in the morning we set off to explore the incredible landscape around Dallol and Lake Assal. Dallol lies 116 meters below the sea level and is therefore one of the deepest and hottest places on earth. The Dallol volcano is buried under salt for several kilometers, but shows its presence through bizarrely arched salt domes and hundreds of hot gas seeps (fumaroles) and acid lakes in all kinds of colors. Afternoon: It’s time for us to leave the desert. We start our return and reach the highlands near Wukro in the afternoon. After another hour and a half drive we will reach back in Mekele. Depending on your plans we may either drop you at the airport or at your reserved hotel.

4.00I did the tour to Danakil depresssion. It has been amazing. The food was really good,a mix of vegetarian and not,and it was not spicy,very delicious. The camping area are not the camping area like we are use to,but are open space area and you sleep on matress on the floor,it was really authentic. Be open to have an open bathroom:the nature. The depression is one of the most amazing places on earth,minerals,colors,salted lakes. You can also "swim" in the salted lake. It definitely recommend this tour. The staff has always been amazing,I traveled alone and I always felt safe with them.

5.00I have been with others groups Danakil 3 days starting from semera, and it was incredibly and so colorfully area, I have never seen before such kind of this place. I would highly recommend travelers to see danakil plus "Ethio Target Tours" it was unforgettable experience, Then I went with Gheralta tour with a guide who had well over a decade of experience and took fantastic care of us: 4x4 vehicles with Ateneh; courteous and considerate drivers; fantastic food cooked fresh and accommodating of vegetarians/special requests.

5.00So friendly staff and good communication with our guide Alexo and Tegegn. The trip where covered 3 days swith Italian group to Danakil: The company Ethio Target Tours give us affordable price by far the most. As we see all route the arrangement begin with the company and all the group including us absolutly love the journey. Need more time to visit Ethiopia but next Year!

5.00We had been planning with my office colleagues to visit northern Ethiopia, Danakil Depression, a place that felt like another planet, we were told! We picked Ethio Target Tour & Travel, and for sure they did not disappoint! The 3-day safari was a pure adventure - exploring the fiery Erta Ale volcano, witnessing the surreal landscapes of Dallol, and feeling the earth's heat radiating from multi-colored salt flats including dipping/messaging our feet in the hot springs. Our guides were incredible - knowledgeable, friendly, and always ensuring our safety and comfort (especially during the scorching sun!). The seamless transport from Addis Ababa made the entire experience incredibly smooth. If you're looking for a mind-blowing adventure unlike any other, this Danakil Depression trip is a must!
