Dimeka is the best village to meet the Hamar, a people from the Omo valley. It is best to arrange to travel between Turmi and Junka on a Saturday, the big market day. The women's ornaments made up of bracelets and pearl encrusted leather are impressive, as is their skin, spread with a red mud mask made from clay and butter and covered with scars. Some women also wear large necklaces or collars to show they are married. The market is mainly dedicated to cattle, and to common consumer goods: vegetables, cereals, etc. But you can also find some handicrafts. A local guide is not essential but is a good source of information. He took us to the village of Bashada potters at Argude, which is not far and where you can buy authentic handicraft souvenirs.

We just finished an incredible 3-day Omo Valley tour with Papyrus Tours, and it exceeded all our expectations! From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized. The team at Papyrus Tours was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about sharing the culture and beauty of the Omo Valley. Our guide was outstanding — respectful, well-informed, and deeply connected to the local communities, which made every visit feel authentic and meaningful. Over the three days, we had the opportunity to meet several fascinating tribes, learn about their traditions, and experience daily life in a way that felt responsible and culturally sensitive. The landscapes were breathtaking, and the itinerary was well-paced — full of experiences but never rushed. Transportation was comfortable, accommodations were clean and welcoming, and every detail was thoughtfully handled. We always felt safe and well taken care of. If you're considering visiting the Omo Valley, we highly recommend Papyrus Tours. This trip was not just a tour — it was a truly unforgettable cultural experience!
