Get ready to experience the blast from the past of traditional Czech cuisine. Our Prague Retro Food Tour explores local spots which seemed as if they were stuck in the communist times of former Czechoslovakia. Something entirely different from typical tourist spots.
The tour visits 4 thematic spots, including a pub from before WW2 times, a cake shop where all grandmas from Prague have their weekly meetings, a famous Prague delicatessen with a history of 1916, and a socialist-era wine bar with draft wine from Moravian Slovakia region.
You will also discover some of the most beautiful passages during the walking transfers between our tour venues. We’ll provide interesting historical facts and recommend numerous other Prague pubs, restaurants, and cafés worth visiting.
To keep our tour as a truly communal experience, we do only small groups, which allow us to engage with each other and also be respectful to local residents and traditional customers of our venues.
Service animals allowed
Public transportation options are available nearby
Suitable for all physical fitness levels
Please note that the entire duration includes our walking time.
The Tour is not suitable for vegans and vegetarians should expect very limited options as Czech cuisine is mostly meat based. If you have some allergies or intolerance, let us know in advance and we will try to modify the menu if needed.
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
Nove MEsto
We will meet in the New Town quarter where with it's mixture or 19th century Art Nouveau and early 20 century Functionalism architecture style. we will show you some non-touristy attractions and we will go to the first restaurant to try some typical Czech food and drinks.
Karlovo namesti
We will walk through Prague's largest historical square on our way to a pastry shop.
There are sweet deserts on the menu and coffee or tea is coming with it.
Selection of 2-3 small beers, typical Czech spirit and glass of Moravian wine (each drink possible to swap for non-alcoholic option). We will not serve alcoholic beverages to minors.
There are 5-8 tastings (depending on group size) pub snacks, starters, sandwiches a dessert at 4 different places. We always order ala carte in real restaurants - no"special" tourist tastings menus.
It will be a great mistake to not taste the Czech Coca-Cola alternative from socialist era. Also anytime you'd not feel for beer there will place for trying different Czech sodas.
We'll not have any main course large meals. Believe us Czech snacks and starters are enough food and also we'll prepare a list of must have Czech dishes for you to try as a home work.

This tour was the highlight of our time in Prague. Michal was such a great tour guide, friendly, informative and very personable. We went places I would never have thought of and tried so many delicious things. I love that you got off the beaten track on this tour and saw some local places. It felt like hanging out with a new friend who just happened to know the best places to go and try local food and drink and so much of the history. It was definitely up there amongst the best city tours I've done in 42 countries! Thanks so much Michal!

Petra was absolutely amazing. We got lost since it was our first time in Prague and she was able to help us navigate to the meeting spot. She took time to give us history and teach us about the native cuisine. We absolutely would recommend this tour and Petra we appreciate all of your time you spent with us. We had an amazing time!

It was a really nice tour where we could experience Czech food and visit some authentic and traditional places. I would like also to thank our Amazing guide Petra who is full of knowledge and answers all the questions we asked in perfect French. I really recommend this tour because it's really different from other tours and it will help you to discover the real Czech Republic and learn more about their culture and history.

We had so much fun running around town with Michale and Petra on their local food tour. I only wish we'd done it at the beginning of our trip instead of at the end. This is our fourth time in Prague and we'd already been in town for a week and a half, so we thought we had a good understanding of the city, its history, and its culture. Although after our food tour, we realized that we were only scratching the surface of what we could learn. Michale and Petra took us to traditional restaurants and bars, "off the beaten path" but also right under our noses. On several occasions, we went into places we'd walked by numerous times but never went in because there were no menus in English and the people working there seemed to speak no English at all. What a mistake! Once guided by Michale and Petra we realized that these places had terrific food and drinks and were extremely inexpensive. It was fun to blend in and really experience these authentic very much "under touristed" places. Along with the food and drink we got a real sense of the history of the city and the culture. Michale and Petra are wonderfully open and engaging people and very easy to talk with. We always felt very comfortable. I'd highly recommend this tour. Make sure you arrive hungry and with your walking shoes on.
