This review is long overdue! Over the holidays we did a road trip hitting a lot of the National Parks in Utah plus the Grand Canyon, and realized Monument Valley was en route. We booked a private 3.5 hour tour with Dineh Bekeyah Tours and it was amazing. While you can take a self-guided tour on the 17 mile Scenic Drive, the tour takes you places that you can’t otherwise go, providing an unmatched opportunity to see Monument Valley and to learn about Diné culture and history. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking and unlike anywhere else in the world. So many of our pictures looked like a green screen but I assure you it’s real! And we can attribute our phenomenal experience directly to our guide, Chandler - knowledgeable, kind, fun, and generous. We learned so much from him. It almost felt like a bonus that he is so well versed in the movie-making history AND is an avid photographer. He took amazing photos of and for us! Some highlights: a spot for crafts and jewelry and some amazing frybread with two of the cutest black kittens; a traditional Navajo home (hogan); geology and history and pictographs; stunning vistas. The tour was definitely a highlight of our trip!

After doing the Monument Valley and backlands tour in the morning. We went out with Duffy after lunch. We were lucky enough to be the only ones at the time, so we had a private tour. Duffy told us extensively about the life of the dine and about their rituals and lifestyle with nature. He drove us through the insanely beautiful and robust landscape where we got a lot of time and space. We climbed rocks to see the caves with old cave dwellings/cave dwellings and arches. Duffy took some nice pictures of us and actively involved our children in the tour. Also this tour was highly recommended!

The Monument Valley tour is a must but if you have the time, I highly recommend the Mystery Valley tour as well. Very interesting and stunning scenery of course. Our tour guide Clint was terrific.

Elivis is the best!!! This tour takes you places you won’t see driving around in your car! It’s a must tour to do! I learned a ton about the area, vegetation, wildlife, and the different rock formations from Elvis. Wish I’d gotten an address to send Halibut from Alaska 🤟

Beautiful off-the-beaten-track tour in a superb setting, old pre-Columbian houses, petroglyphs. Our guide was very friendly, smiling and gave us lots of explanations.

The Mystery Valley tour is in a completely different area of the park and about 20 minutes away. We also did the sunrise tour of Monument Valley. It was great seeing two totally different aspects. The Mystery Valley tour was led by John and focussed on the ancient peoples, cliff dwellings, pictographs and petroglyphs. John also gave us wonderful and detailed information on plants and their medicinal uses, local animals, Dine’ culture and spirituality. He was so informative and engaged. It was really special. Highly recommend. Morning tours are cooler and have far less guests.

This was our second visit to Monument Valley and our first to explore Mystery Valley. This was an opportunity to get deep into the canyons and see where ancient peoples lived and contemplate their mysteries. The site structures and petroglyphs and pictographs stimulated (how did they do that) questions and what were the stories behind the drawings. Our Dineh guide (John) was superb in every way. In addition to pointing out the artifacts, he expanded on Dineh culture and history and how the current culture has evolved. Our guide made the culture come alive for us.

The guide Joseph made the tour. Joseph shared interesting information about the place and people who share the landscape. My friend and I would definitely sign up for another tour with Joseph.

Roz was one of the best and most personable guides we have had the pleasure of knowing and learning from. She shared so much about her family and we laughed so much with her. Her flute playing was magical and emotional and we just had the best time and can’t thank her enough!!
