Experience the very best of Scotland’s Lowlands and Central Highlands on a private guided journey designed for travellers who want to explore breathtaking landscapes, centuries of history, and the real locations that inspired the Outlander world. Depart from Edinburgh, or any pick‑up point you prefer and enjoy a scenic circular route through some of Scotland’s most iconic towns, castles, and glens.

Along the way, wander through beautifully preserved 16th‑century towns, discover hidden castles, and stand on historic battlefields that shaped Scotland’s past. Whether you’re drawn by the romance and drama of Outlander or simply want to immerse yourself in authentic Scottish heritage, this tour offers a rich blend of storytelling, culture, and unforgettable scenery.

Your first two nights are spent in Inverness and your final night is spent in Fort William.

Edinburgh to Inverness

Midhope Castle

This is Lallybroch. Unmissable for every Outlander fan Jamies home was once the house of Alexander Drummond. Now a ruin the interior of this house now has a limited part of the interior accesible to visit.

Drummond Gardens

Open from the 1st May until 31st October this incredible formal garden features as the gardens of Versailles in Outlander. Drummond Gardens has all the characteristics of a courtly, 17th century Scottish Renaissance garden. It is a composite garden, restructured in early Victorian times and renewed again in the 20th century when the garden framework and the exceptional interest of the original 19th century design were carefully preserved.

Falkland

Old inverness in the show this ancient village boasts King James IV’s pride and joy, Falkland Palace built in 1500. The palace can be visited if interested, but no doubt you will be interested in the famous fountain where Jamies ghost appears and the shop where Claire sees the blue vase.

The stunning sites of this vast plateau of mountains grace our trip to Inverness, with plenty of stops on offer or a straight run to the city.

Clava Cairns

The 4000 year history of this atmospheric site will amaze you, and it certainly had a big impact on Diana Gabaldon, listing this place as one of the key inspirations for the story.

Culloden Battlefield

The eerie site of the last battle on British mainland soil, the Drumossie moor by the village of Culloden, with its 19th century memorials and absolutely unmissable museum.

Culloden

Passing through the village we go to look at the Culloden House Hotel, once home of Duncan Forbes the lord of Culloden, and used as both Jacobite and Government HQs before and after the battle. Used in the TV show as exactly that, Bonnie Prince Charlies headquarters.

A drive through Inverness and north takes us to this amazing peninsula on the Moray Firth. Linked to the Bran Seer who predicted Culloden, and in the shadow of Fort George built in the aftermath, this is a beautiful place where dolphins can be spotted.

Inverness to Fort William

Urquhart Castle

The only castle on the mighty Loch Ness this ruined fortress features in the books during Claire and Franks honeymoon. A boat trip down loch ness disembarking can be added to the day based on interest and availability.

Glen Affric National Nature Reserve

A drive into the centre of the Highlands, we will keep going until the road ends, and come to Filming location, and favourite place of ours, Glen Affric. Often described as the most beautiful glen in Scotland, Glen Affric contains the third largest area of ancient Caledonian pinewoods in the country.

Glenfinnan Viaduct

The imposing Viaduct stands overlooking the majestic Loch Shiel with the Highlander monument marking the area that the standard was raised on August 19th 1745. Rumours popular movies being filmed here in the past remain unconfirmed!

Fort William

Perhaps not exactly what you are expecting, for example there is no longer a fort in this seaside town. For your overnight stay here, we recommend booking a Guest House or Bed and Breakfast over a hotel. There are plenty options for your evening’s entertainment in this busy little town.

Passing through this spectacular glen will take your breath away, and hearing the tragic history will surely bring a tear to your eye.

Castle Leoch awaits, home of the Mackenzies in Outlander this amazing castle has towered over us since 1398.

Culross

Much like Falkland on Day 1 this place will make you feel you have passed through the stones yourself. Playing the part of Cranesmuir Village in the show, we will walk round the village and see many filming locations as well as an incredible and ancient charm.

Blackness Castle

Used as Fort William in the show, you will find out why this prison fortress was dubbed the ship that never sailed, and see where the infamous Fort William scenes were filmed.
