What To Expect

Stargazing Zion is pleased to host you, family, and friends for an entertaining evening of stargazing and astronomy on a field adjacent to the newly dedicated International Dark Sky Park, Zion National Park. Starting with a brief 10-minute walk to our dark sky location, our guides will then familiarize you with the night sky as astronomical twilight begins to set. Each guest lounges in their own Yogibo. These pods conform to your body, eliminating pressure points to make it comfortable and easy to view the star-filled sky. Each guest also has a pair of Celestron Outland X Binoculars to view the sky from their Yogibo. Our astronomy guides will present a 2-hour program that includes state-of-the-art telescopes and laser pointers to guide you around the constellations and objects of the night sky. We also provide guests an up-close view of celestial objects (galaxies, nebulae, clusters) through our powerful telescopes. Hot beverages are provided as well, such as hot chocolate, coffee and tea. For specific directions to the site, please provide an email address in the message center.

  • Educational and Fun

This was a really fun and educational experience, and we had an amazing time on this tour. The guides were very informative and I learned a lot of new astronomy facts. It was a really cozy setup with the bean bags and hot drinks, and looking through the telescopes was phenomenal. If I had to give one piece of feedback, it would be that in addition to the general housekeeping information that is shared at the start of the tour, the team should also ask guests to be mindful of noise/side conversations. There was unfortunately another group who kept talking while the guides were lecturing, and it was very distracting and took away from our experience. Overall, a wonderful and enriching experience.

The stargazing experience was awesome! Zoe was our guide, Noah was our photographer, and the staff were great. Tons of knowledge about Space!! We did have a little bit of cloud cover but it eventually cleared off and they had these amazing high-powered telescopes (we even got to see galaxies that were crashing in together 35 million years ago because of how long the light takes to reach earth). The pictures they got were really cool, all included with the package. Overall highly recommend!

  • The best star gazing experience I've had, by far!

They recommended a great company to get me to the site (Red Rocks Shuttle). The Stargazing Zion guides first took us through a field where planets were placed in relation to the actual distances between planets. They shared the latest information about the planets while our eyes adjusted to the dark. They had super comfy huge bean bags and blankets so we could enjoy their fascinating laser pointer tour of the night sky, identifying both traditional names and native names for constellations, Then we looked through advanced telescopes had been taking photos every four minutes, so we saw sharp images of two intermixed spiral galaxies, nebulas, star clusters being born, dying stars and more on iPad-type screens and through the telescopes. They also had top--level regular telescopes where experts guided us in viewing the same objects. Then, we had another great tour of the night sky, while all the telescopes were reset to show us new amazing objects in the deep, dark, night skies, full of stars! They had snacks and soft drinks! They took photos of us staring at the sky full of stars, and sent them to us, along with photos of all the objects they showed us for no extra charge. They even thought to give us red lights so we could see to get those snacks and move around (and we got to keep the lights, and got glow in the dark stickers) It was a very thoughtful and outstanding tour!

  • Very informative . Set up of telescopes to view planets and galaxy’s was awesome Highly recommend !

A terrific experience! The skies cleared just in time for stargazing, which seemed doubtful earlier in the evening, but the providers use weather apps to have an accurate picture of what will happen. The guides knew all about what they were teaching and explained well. I could’ve laid there all night, taking in the stars. The site was beautiful and was a bonus since we arrived at sunset. The drive back was curvy and very dark, so if that bothers you, it might not be the best choice. The telescopes were very impressive, but I was just happy to be under dark skies. The beverage station was a thoughtful and nice touch. Blankets and bean bags were also nice to have though the bean bags had a mildew-y smell that was tough to tolerate (I’m very smell sensitive. This was the only drawback). The time passed quickly—too quickly—I wanted to spend more hours gazing but seemed to be the perfect time for everyone else, who left right away. Super cool to offer a photographer so that we could just be present and enjoy the experience.

We had a group of 9 go to this tour. It was very well layed out, the tour guides were very knowledgeable (that is saying something we had 2 big star guys with us) they answered all of thier questions. It was so comfortable. They provide lay down bean bags, blankets, binoculars, hot coco, tea and coffee. This tour cost more than other tours but it is worth every penny. It was the highlight of our trip.
