Sam Our guide was super nice but our group of 5 could not hear him..when i brought it up he joked about it but still we couldn't hear or distinguish what he was all saying..he looks down or to the side alot and his voice is very soft and sounds muffled or like hes mumbling. And the tour is 98% outside walking around the plaza technically(car truck noise)..also both the $40 historical tour and $50 walking history tour listed for this event were the same tour here..2 of the gals were here for the $40 history tour and 3 of us for the $50 history tour and Sam the guide gave us all the same tour so 3 of us were overcharged..we also had to go find our guide. The instructions for tour said to meet in front of statue and our guide was in front of the big hotel which is behind the statue..we went looking for him after 15 minutes since no guide showed up in front of statue. It could be a good tour because of the history and significance of the Taos area but tour guides have to be able to project their voices and connect with their customers

  • Great way to learn about Taos

This tour was a great way to experience Taos for the first time. Sam was a great guide, providing lots of details about the history and current aspects of Taos. As a longtime resident, Sam provided details from a local perspective that I really appreciated.

Sam (our guide) was outstanding. He talked about the history of Taos, the culture, the art scene, and some of the movies made in the Taos area. He made the hour and an half interesting and informative. We enjoyed talking with him and visiting various galleries and local shops.

Wonderful walking tour with Sam - we loved his stories and the opportunity to learn more about Taos, past and present. It has made our stay in the area so much more interesting! There was a glitch with TripAdvisor/ Viator communications with Sam, so once you book, you may want to contact Sam at the number provided to confirm your tour.

  • Very little bang for your bucks

Sam is not the best tour guide. He tells mainly anecdotal infirmation, plugs certain businesses on the square, is easily distracted, loses track of people on the tour when crossing streets (and we were only four altogether) starts the tour before businesses open and says, "They'll be here after lunch." His voice is very low and he doesn't speak up when there is noise nearby. His aidiovisual aids are mostly his own drawings, which he plugs on the tour as well. My least favorite Vistor experience to date. I did better walking around myself afterwards and talking to shop owners and artists. Taos is the bomb. This tour was overpriced and underwhelming.
