Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak UNGUIDED down a scenic five mile stretch of river as it moves it's way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months.
We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site. Each reservation includes a kayak (or with advance request a paddleboard), paddle, PFD/personal flotation device and return shuttle to starting site.
This is an UNGUIDED kayaking experience. While this is primarily a scenic float there are sections of swift water and kayakers often tip out – so be prepared to get wet.

Participant must be comfortable with an UNGUIDED river excursion. While this is primarily a scenic float, there are sections of swift water and kayakers often tip out - so be prepared to get wet.
Must sign a waiver prior to arrival. Waiver link email will be sent to you after booking, please call if you do not receive the email.
Dress to be in the heat and to get wet!
Service animals or pets are not allowed on kayaks for the safety of the animal

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled trip time. Upon arrival, you’ll check in, confirm that your waivers are on file, and prepare your belongings. You should be receiving two emails from Saguaro Lake Ranch. The first email is the Booking Confirmation with a link to your Reservation Portal. From there, you can sign your waiver, find directions to the meeting location and watch the Orientation Video. The second email will be the Waiver email. Water, sunscreen, and dry bags are available for purchase on-site. Your paddling equipment will be provided at this time. A mandatory Orientation Video must be watched prior to ariival or launching. This includes basic paddling instruction, river safety guidelines, and an overview of the Salt River’s geography. Your group will launch directly into the Salt River from our on-site access point. Enjoy your paddle! Trip concludes approximately 2 Hours After Launch. Your trip will end at the Foxtail Administration Site, where a shuttle will meet you to return you and your gear to Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch.

5.00Awesome experience. We were able to see horses along the banks too. It was very busy on the Saturday we went with all the tubers so just be aware that if going on a weekend, there will be a lot of people after the private portion of the river.

5.00My daughter and I have been coming for years and we love it. Staff has always been super sweet and inviting. If possible, I’d recommend you book the earliest launch available. We went this past weekend and we got to see so much wildlife, including a few otters! You avoid most of the crowds this way too. Very worth it. Been coming here for years, will continue to keep coming back 💕

5.00What a fun 2 hour self guided kayaking trip. It is so nice not to have to deal with equipment and transportation when you are done. Everyone was super nice and we so enjoyed the kayaking. We saw wild horses and a plethora of different native birds. I would definitely recommend them and we look forward to doing it again next year.

5.00Bella checked us in. She was very helpful and friendly. The staff explained the couse well and we felt very prepared. The river was clean and a great kayaking experience. The view was beautiful and the moderate rapids very fun. The atmosphere was fun. Nick met us at the river exit and was fantastic! We had a nice chat about our shared Cincinnati roots, our love for Skyline Chili and the Bengals. It was a great experience and we will totally book again on our next Arizona vacation. Thank you for the fun day!
A sublime morning kayaking the Salt River

5.00Experiencing any water in a desert is pretty special, but floating and paddling the Salt River on a tranquil June morning in the ruggedly beautiful Sonoran Desert is an exceptional experience. Along the way we saw wild horses, otters, herons, vultures, and rising trout. There was enough easily manageable swift water to provide fun for everyone, along with plenty of tranquil stretches that gave us time to chat while contemplating the steep stone cliffs and desert landscape surrounding us. There is not a lot of solitude available on the Salt in the summer, but by departing at 7:30am we avoided the worst of the crowds. Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch provided a helpful orientation, quality gear, friendly staff, and a comfortable van ride back at the end of our trip, all for a very reasonable fee of $51. I highly recommend this trip!

5.00This was a wonderful adventure!. The video we watched at the beginning of the trip really answered a lot of questions and it gave helpful information. The river was just the right amount of calm water and light rapids. I would recommend it to others and I hope to be able to do it again!
