Founded by King Sebastian of Portugal in the 16th century.
Mercado dos Lavradores
The Mercado dos Lavradores ("farmers' market") is a fruit, vegetable, flower and fish market in Funchal, Madeira. The building was designed by Edmundo Tavares and opened on 24 November 1940. The facade, main entrance and fish market contain panels of tiles depicting regional themes, executed by João Rodrigues. It is divided into a number of smaller plazas and stairways that are used as sales venues.

She was also very helpful with providing us on our first visit to Madeira with useful information on how to get around using the local bus service and giving us good recommendations for shopping and eating. There were only 4 of us on the tour which made it more personal and meant we could chat with Lilou as she guided us around Funchal. Some beautiful sights and great knowledge about what we were seeing. I would definitely recommend.

4.00Lovely friendly guide Anna who was very knowledgeable and informative. A good way to learn about Funchal at an easy pace. The cathedral abd church were stunning and a lovely touch was the wine tasting at the end.
