The Nazca culture developed in one of the driest deserts on the planet on the southern coast of Peru; examples of its legacy are the Aqueducts and the ceremonial center of Cahuachi. This land tour complements the information on the origin of the Nazca Lines, allowing travelers to learn and understand more about the development and expansion of the Nazca culture. Travelers will be able to observe and record archaeological evidence.

What To Expect
Cantalloc Aqueduct
Our guide driver will pick you up from your hotel or the previously coordinated point. The aqueducts are located 4 km from the city. The Nascas stood out for their advanced technology and hydraulic engineering, building an impressive network of aqueducts, canals and wells that allowed them to permanently supply water to the farmlands. This set of aqueducts, canals and wells were called puquios, a Quechua word meaning fountain, spring or well. Free time 15 minutes.
Cahuachi
Continuing the tour we leave the city towards Cahuachi, located 28 kilometers from Nazca. Cahuachi means “place where the seers live.” It is a citadel built in adobe, where ceremonial pyramids stand out: the Great Pyramid, the Great Temple, the Stepped Temple and the Mounds. It is located on a sloping terrain facing the Nazca lines. Free time 15 minutes.

5.00Excellent guide and tour. I actually paid a little extra to hit a couple more sites and he re-routed everything expertly. Access to Cahuachi is not entirely straightforward, requiring a drive through essentially dirt tracks in the desert and a guide was definitely appreciated. The acqeduct is much more accessible but he did an excellent job going over the details and showing me around. My additional request was to see the Nazca and Palpa lines which were well worth the drive and additional money. As an aside, before seeing the sites I would thoroughly recommend going to the Antonini Museum in Nazca first as it provides so much information and context. Do ask for the folder with the translations for the signs at the front desk if they forget to offer.
