Mirik
Mirik is a small town and a municipality of Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal, India. A floating fountain in the middle of the lake is a joy forever and very often you may find the glory of Kanchenjungha reflected in the lake waters. A rich forest with thousands of Cryptomaria-Japanica trees clothes the slopes on the west. A 3.5 km. zig-zag footwalk takes you along the lake – a sleek footbridge connects the garden on the east with the woods on the west. Explore the 3.5kms road around the Lake. Boating on the Lake & Horse riding on direct payment.

1. First thing - many reviews and opinion say that Mirik is not worth visiting. Our experience was may be one could omit Darjeeling, but Mirik is a must visit place. Great environment and relatively lesser commotion as compared to that in Darjeeling. The view of the tea gardens on the way from Darjeeling to Mirik is simply astounding. Very very beautiful. 2. The Mirik lake on the other hand is not as beutiful; but the place, the village is quite calm and peaceful. Hence, the visit is enjoyable. 3. Which cab service to book for in Darjeeling? Strongly suggest to contact Mr Vinodji (Contact: 9832077283) - who owns an Innova and drives himself. He is a 60 year old guy, very good natured and excellent networking skills. Has stayed all these years in the area (although originally from Nepal) and hence doubles up as a Guide also. Almost knows all the local people/police/shop etc in Darjeeling. Is honest and not greedy. A real gentleman. 4. The road from Darjeeling to Mirik is simply beautiful. One remarkable aspect is after a distance (in this 50 km stretch) one would see the road as the dividing line between India and Nepal. On one side of the road is India and on the other side is Nepal ! One would also encounter beautiful pine wood forest on the way and the famous Goodricke Tea Estate near Mirik.

The journey from Darjeeling to Mirik is probably one of the most beautiful experience I have had in a road journey. Sights of mountain ranges, tea gardens, deep forested cover, trees that look so beautiful.
