Playhouse Square

As we roll through downtown, we cruise past the dazzling lights of Playhouse Square, the largest performing arts district outside of New York City. Home to five historic theaters built in the 1920s, this vibrant stretch of Euclid Avenue has been beautifully restored and now hosts Broadway shows, concerts, comedy acts, and world-class performances year-round. Look up and you’ll see the iconic outdoor chandelier — the world’s largest outdoor chandelier — sparkling above the street. It’s one of Cleveland’s most Instagram-worthy spots and a symbol of the city’s cultural revival. This district is where old-school glamour meets modern energy, and it’s a perfect example of how Cleveland preserves its history while keeping things fresh and exciting.

Public Square

As the trolley rolls into the center of downtown, we pass through Public Square, the historic heart of the city. Originally laid out in 1796 as part of Cleveland’s founding plan, this central gathering place has been the backdrop for parades, protests, celebrations, and everyday city life for over two centuries. At the center stands the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, honoring Civil War veterans, while the surrounding skyline showcases Cleveland’s architectural evolution — from early 20th-century landmarks to modern glass towers. Today, Public Square is a vibrant green space where locals gather for concerts, festivals, and winter ice skating. It’s where Cleveland’s past and present meet in one dynamic crossroads.
