What To Expect
Departure from Nairobi begins at 6:00 AM, allowing for a smooth 90-minute transit through the scenic Kikuyu highlands to reach Mount Longonot National Park by 7:30 AM. The morning is dedicated to the ascent, a steady 3.1 km trek to the crater rim that rewards hikers with spectacular views of the Great Rift Valley and the lush forest within the caldera. After conquering the rim and descending back to the base, the journey concludes with a relaxing lunch at the Kifaru Gift Shop, where you can refuel with local flavors and browse authentic Kenyan crafts before the return drive to the city.

Amazing Mount Longonot Hiking Experience

5.00I had an incredible hike at Mount Longonot. The trail was challenging but well worth the effort. Reaching the summit rewarded us with breathtaking views of the crater, the Great Rift Valley, and the surrounding landscape. The park was clean, well maintained, and the staff at the entrance were friendly and helpful. We spent about 5 to 6 hours completing the hike and part of the crater rim walk, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take photos. I recommend carrying enough water, wearing comfortable hiking shoes, and starting early to avoid the midday heat. This is a perfect adventure for anyone who enjoys nature, fitness, and spectacular views. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend it.
