Following a 9-day tour of Iceland, my wife and I, and two other couples, traveled to the Faroe Islands. We consulted with three tour companies and ultimately chose Experience Faroe Islands because of Kristina Thede’s responsiveness and willingness to customize our 4-day, 3-night itinerary to match our interests. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer! We were completely captivated by the beauty of the Faroes, the thoughtfully designed itinerary, and our exceptional guide, Ernst, who also happens to be Kristina’s husband and an accomplished musician. Experience Faroe Islands handled every detail seamlessly, from airport transfers and accommodations to our Tórshavn city tour and three full days of hiking and exploring the islands. The ever-enthusiastic Birgit led our Tórshavn city tour. When we reached the main church, she taught us some basic Faroese pronunciation and then delighted us by singing a hymn in Faroese. It was a memorable and special moment. Later that day, we boarded a RIB boat for the famous grotto concert, where our very own guide Ernst performed solo on the trumpet, harmonizing beautifully with the sounds of the waves and echoes of the cave. This was an unforgettable experience and an absolute must-do. Ernst drove the six of us in a spacious, comfortable company van and accompanied us on every hike and historical visit. Each day included wonderful lunches arranged by Experience Faroe Islands: two picnic lunches with delicious sandwiches and a relaxing sit-down lunch of excellent fish and chips at Roses Cafe. When Ernst learned that we wanted time for shopping and to enjoy the incredible spa at our hotel, Hotel Føroyar, which offered one of the best spa experiences we’ve ever had, he thoughtfully adjusted our itinerary to accommodate both without sacrificing any of the must-see highlights. When we asked Kristina for dinner recommendations and inquired about Heimablídni (traditional home dining with locals), she suggested Katrina Christiansen Restaurant which offers outstanding Faroese tasting menus in a beautiful historic building. It was excellent. For our Heimablídni dinner, Kristina shared information about local hosts who welcome visitors into their homes. After reviewing the options with her, we learned that Birgit, our Tórshavn guide and Kristina’s mother-in-law offered to host us. We accepted immediately and couldn’t have been happier. Birgit is a wonderful host and an exceptional cook who made us feel completely at home. From the welcome drink of locally produced rhubarb schnapps to the delicious four-course Faroese dinner accompanied by wine and beer, the evening was extraordinary. Joining us were Kristina, Ernst, and Faroese singer/dancer Borgfríð, Birgit’s future daughter-in-law. By the end of the evening, we felt like part of this talented and warm family. It was one of the most authentic and meaningful travel experiences we’ve ever had. If you are considering a trip to the Faroe Islands (just a short two-hour flight from Reykjavik) I highly recommend Experience Faroe Islands. Talk to Kristina Thede and let her help you create a truly unforgettable journey.

The Faroe Islands highlights tour is a lovely experience. The guide told competently and kindly about the beautiful places we saw, and deepened with interesting background knowledge. The tour gave a good overview.

We took part in the "Faroe Islands Highlights Tour" on July 21 – and it was undoubtedly one of the best experiences we had on the Faroe Islands! Our guide was both knowledgeable, present and flexible, and the route of the day was adapted so we were able to see as much as possible and with respect to our interests - without at any time feeling rushed. We had the very breathtaking experience of seeing sea parrot on close hold. Later, we got a strong and nuanced impression of a Faroese tradition that has been used for centuries. The night before there had been a mud catch in Tjøruvik. The 116 grind whales had been moved to the village of Eidi, and we got a unique insight into how the grind was treated and distributed, so a very large part of the Faroese population got a share in the catch, which is non-commercial. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us. The tour went through the most spectacular landscapes and past beautiful waterfalls. We got to see hidden points of view that we would never have found on our own. At the same time, our guide generously shared his knowledge of nature, history and Faroese lifestyle – creating a good and inspiring atmosphere throughout the day. We left with lots of impressions, pictures and thoughtfulness – and at the same time a great gratitude for having had this huge experience. The warmest recommendations from here! Inge Marie and Lili

The tour was amazing! We visited all the places in the description, and Thomas was an excellent guide and driver, providing us with many information about the islands along the way. We had two small kids in the group and he made sure that they have fun and comforted as well
