What To Expect
Osaka Castle
We will start going to Osaka castle, as the park surrounding the castle is huge and can be tiring to walk, please note that it is possible to take a shuttle to go directly to the castle (there is usually no shuttle service the first Thursday of every month). You will learn more about the rich history of Osaka Castle, intimately linked to the history of Japan. If and only you wish, we will go inside the castle which serves as a museum on the history of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, a man who changed the destiny of Japan.
Dotombori District
We will discover the Dotombori district and the famous "running man" in the entertainment district. You will discover in detail what this place has to offer so you won't miss anything from your Osaka experience.

5.00Our experience with guide Hugo was particularly positive. He was present at the agreed pick-up location on time, so the day could start smoothly. The tour was completely private and used public transport (subway), which gave the whole thing an authentic character and at the same time was efficient to reach the sights. Hugo gave clear explanations of both the customs and peculiarities of Japan and the customs of the inhabitants. His knowledge was remarkably large and extensive. Hugo spoke very good English, which made communication particularly pleasant. A highlight was the typical Japanese lunch at a restaurant where many locals also ate – a unique experience that added authenticity. Finally, Hugo brought us safely and timely back to the cruise ship, allowing us to return with peace of mind.

5.00Read the description wrong and didn’t realize this was a walking tour. However, our guide Hugo was great and we were able to see highlights of Osaka, including the castle and various entertainment districts. Our guide made it as easy as possible for the folks in our group that needed more time for the walk etc. He even recommended a fantastic place for dinner. Would do it again if everyone in our group was ok with walking :)

5.00My husband and I were able to take a 6 hour walking tour of Osaka with Calum. The tour started out with a trip to Osaka Castle. Calum was lovely and was willing to customize our experience by taking us Shinseki then onto Dotoburi! We highly recommend this tour and felt like we found spots in Osaka we would have never seen without a personal guide.

5.00During our most recent Celebrity Cruise on May 16,2025 through Japan, one of the highlights was our stop in Osaka, a city renowned for its vibrant culture and countless attractions. Wanting an authentic and personalized experience, we chose to book a private guide rather than joining a large cruise excursion, and it was the best decision we could have made. Through Viator, we connected with Hugo, a fantastic guide who took us on an unforgettable journey through Osaka’s historic and local gems. He led us to the iconic Osaka Castle, shared fascinating historical insights, introduced us to hidden local eateries( so good), well Known places to visit famous Dotombori, Shinsekai The retro charm destination, with its colorful signs and bustling streets, created a unique atmosphere. Sampling delicious food hidden spots that only our guide took us to which we indulged ourselves!hands down the best local eatery was one of the many highlights, as well as the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower adds to the character of the area. Truly one of a kind experience. We also visited “ Ame-mura” also known as American village /District(really hip area) and did so much more …he gave us an insider’s view of the city’s daily life. Hugo’s warmth, patience, and deep knowledge made our day exceptional—even extending our tour well into the evening hours not expected at all...ending it at a lively karaoke bar!! So much fun!! In the beginning of our journey He provided us train tickets and helped us navigate the city’s efficient train system, and when time was short, we organized taxi rides so we could make the most of our limited hours to head back n the ship before our 3am departure. Though we wished we had another day to explore nearby Kyoto with him, our time in Osaka was truly special. I wholeheartedly recommend Hugo for anyone seeking an immersive, memorable experience in Japan—he exceeded our expectations in every way, and we can’t wait to return and explore even more with him as our guide and now a new friend in Osaka! 5.00Hugo was an absolute Gun tour guide. He worked out within about 5 min what kind of things we would like to see on the night tour (some of the more underground, less Main Street stuff) and quickly worked out an itinerary that showed us all the less well known parts of Osaka. He was awesome to hang out with too, brilliant with languages and was able to show us a few places we would never have found on our own. 10/10, highly recommend.
