Yukon Suspension Bridge
This tour covers downtown Skagway and the Klondike Gold Rush National Park, then heads up over the Historic White Pass. En route, we will see many waterfalls, stunning peaks, and moon-like sub-alpine vistas above the timberline. We first enter British Columbia, and pass through Canada Customs at Fraser BC. Beyond Fraser, we enter a different climate zone, with less rainfall and it’s often blue and sunny when Skagway stays overcast. I’m really good at spotting goats, with a 99% success rate, I know where they are, and only low clouds rarely obscure the view. We pass beautiful, enormous Lake Tutshi We will go at least as far as the Yukon/British Columbia border for a photo stop. On our return, we visit the Yukon Suspension Bridge (admission included). The bridge spans the amazing Tutshi River. The Bridge is not scary, it's short and very stable. The cafeteria serves Bison Chili, made fresh every day. Returning to Skagway, we visit Bridal Veil Falls on White Pass.

This tour is an absolute delight for so many reasons! Tom Pickerel, the tour guide, is the consummate professional in helping his guests have the optimal experience. For starters, he communicated with me directly when I first booked the trip, and anytime I had a question before the tour, he got back to me quickly. Then, on the day of the trip, when we had made arrangements to meet at the ship dock, we got there early and decided to walk into Skagway, and he picked us up closer to town after we texted him our location. His large and comfortable SUV made it easy to see everything exceptionally well. Tom makes it clear from the outset that he is a very flexible tour guide; he was willing to stop wherever and whenever we saw something that we wanted to take a closer look at. As a resident of Skagway, he has a unique perspective on the town and the surrounding areas. In fact, he was well known at every stop we made on our journey. Tom provided a nice overview of Skagway and relayed interesting facts about the town. Once we got out of town and headed towards Yukon Territory, he was a fount of information about the area and what it is like to live there. The trip includes admission to the Yukon Suspension Bridge, a wonderful park in British Columbia that spans the Tutshi River. Tom allowed us to take as much time as we wanted to explore all parts of the park, which has incredible views and very interesting displays. (Try the bison chili in the restaurant; it's delicious.) After leaving the park, be continued heading north into the Yukon Territory, and the scenery along the way is breathtaking! Tom had interesting tales to tell about the gold rush era in the area, and he pointed out the sites of old mines. We went as far north into Yukon Territory to the charming town of Carcross, and we had plenty of time to wander around the shops and kiosks there. The return trip to Skagway follows the same route, but I saw things from a different perspective on the way back, which included stops at a lovely waterfall and two mountain glaciers. Throughout the entire journey, Tom was a amiable host with a very gracious personality that made me feel like I was hanging out with a friend for the day. The personalized approach that Tom took by letting us dictate the pace really made it a special day. This tour was THE highlight of our trip to Alaska!
