FORT Island, formerly known as Flag Island, located some 16 kilometers from the mouth of the Essequibo River, was once the capital of the colonies of Essequibo and Demerara during the 16th and 17th centuries. the island bears an imprint of the Dutch in the form of two important structures – the Court of Policy and Fort Zeelandia. Take a walk through the Court of Policy, which was built in 1752, and learn more about this time in Guyana. This is the oldest non-military structure in Guyana and has donned many hats as a store, a church, court, and now a well-curated museum. A short walk away from here is Fort Zeelandia, an 18th century brick fort, which was one of the very first buildings constructed in the country. Though the fort is relatively small, it was vital as a defensive fortification.

My family had an absolutely amazing time on the Island Hopping Tour! From start to finish, the experience was filled with fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Each island had its own unique charm. What really made the tour special was our guide! He was incredibly kind, attentive, and full of energy. His bubbly personality kept everyone smiling and engaged the entire day. He made sure we were comfortable, shared interesting facts about each island, and even helped us capture the perfect family photos. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation — truly one of the highlights of our trip! Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun, family-friendly island experience. Kudos to our tour guide, Dexter and team wanderlust!

MThis experience was truly worth it. As a Guyanese living abroad for many years, I felt so grateful to experience this with my partner. I haven’t seen much beyond Georgetown, so this felt humbling and grounding in the best way. To witness the beauty of simple living reminded me of where I come from — and made me even prouder to be Guyanese. Jamal was such a vibe and an awesome tour guide — he made the experience even more memorable!

We had SUCH a good time on the 5-island tour. The tour guide, Chris, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his job. He delivered info with details and humor and there was not a moment of boredom. They were very accommodating with pickups/drop offs along the route. It was very personable. 5/5 would recommend. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the history of our homeland. If I had one criticism it would be the lunch at the resort, but that was not the touring company. I would recommend the resort improve the timeliness and temperature of the food. As a final observation, they even allowed us to wait in the office as we waited for our ride after the tour.
