FORT Island, formerly known as Flag Island, located some 16 kilometers from the mouth of the Essequibo River, was once the capital of the colonies of Essequibo and Demerara during the 16th and 17th centuries. the island bears an imprint of the Dutch in the form of two important structures – the Court of Policy and Fort Zeelandia. Take a walk through the Court of Policy, which was built in 1752, and learn more about this time in Guyana. This is the oldest non-military structure in Guyana and has donned many hats as a store, a church, court, and now a well-curated museum. A short walk away from here is Fort Zeelandia, an 18th century brick fort, which was one of the very first buildings constructed in the country. Though the fort is relatively small, it was vital as a defensive fortification.

Had an AMAZING experience with Wanderlust Adventures GY! Scheduling our tours was a breeze and the staff were very responsive to our questions as we were planning. In addition they easily were able to schedule round trip transport for us which made logistics a breeze! We did the city and 5 island tours with Chris and he is one of the most knowledgeable tour guides I’ve ever encountered. Not only did he know several historical facts about the areas we visited that I never knew, but he also knew several facts about the animals and plants native to the areas. When inclement weather stopped our plans to peruse the market during the city tour he quickly made alternate arrangements to still allow us to experience the local produce without the hassle of the rain. Also, AMAZING photographer- he captured some great moments for us that we will cherish for generations to come. We did the cooking class as well and are so excited that we were the first in the company’s history to have this experience! It was such an authentic experience and we had a great time bonding over drinks and food. The ladies were a blast and so knowledgeable about the dishes we made and the different ways to alter the recipes. This company will be seeing a lot of me and my family in the future! 10/10 would recommend

Enjoy the tour. Explored places in Guyana that I have never been to. Everything is as described. Christopher is an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable and caring. He made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. He also have a sense of humor 😊. My only negative comment about the stop to Bartica is that the beach was very filthy. There was garbage and feces on the beach. Maybe you can reach out to the appropriate people to have this problem rectified. This could be a nice spot to relax and chill. My highlight of this tour was the waterfall. Love love loved it.

I had an amazing time with Wanderlust Adventures GY. The trips felt spontaneous and real, not like a rigid tour. There is so much places to see and every day brought something new and memorable, from tucked-away local spots to stunning viewpoints. Our guide was friendly and down-to-earth, the pace was perfect, and logistics were smooth so I could just relax and enjoy it. I’d recommend them to anyone who wants authentic, well-planned adventures without the touristy feel.

Jamal kept us informed the entire trip. He made the experience an unforgettable one by assisting when needed. The only downside to my trip was that the tide was low and we couldn’t come off the boat to visit fort kyk-over-al. But nevertheless I recommend to book this trip with Wanderlust Adventures

It was a great tour, with many interesting impressions and thanks to our guide Chris, we learned a lot about the history of Guyana as well as about the plant and animal world. Chris was a very relaxed guide who radiated a friendly calm and serenity but always had an absolute overview of his group. Thanks Chris, thanks Wanderlust Adventures

Fantastic 5 Islands Tour! Chris was knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly pleasant throughout. We learned so much about the island’s history, local fruits, and medicinal plants and their uses. The lunch was absolutely delicious. It was such a perfect way to end a rich cultural experience. Highly recommend!
