Eat an early energy-giving breakfast, preferably fruits and cereal; you’ll need the energy during your trek. You’ll get a lunch pack at the lodge, and your driver will have you at the Nkuringo visitor center by 7:30 am for the briefing session. After the briefing, the warden selects travelers in groups of eight people and assigns a gorilla group based on their physical ability. He’ll also offer you a walking stick and advise you to take a porter. For 20 bucks, please take one of the locals; you may need them to pull you muddy slopes or carry your backpack—besides, it’s a great way to support the surrounding communities. You will then join two armed rangers and an expert guide on the trekking trail till you disappear under the unmarked forest canopy. The trek can be quite challenging and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours to locate the habituated gorillas. You’ll be allowed to spend 60 minutes with the gorillas when you find them.
Spend the rest of the evening relaxing at the lodge or take an evening sundowner to the top of the world - the name given to the football field, high up in Nkuringo which offers amazing views over the peaks and forests around Nkuringo. A great way to stretch your legs after the gorilla tracking and to enjoy a sundowner.

This part of the adventure will immerse you in the majestic enchantments of the ancient wilderness, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With luck on your side, some of the backwood dwellers like chimps, forest elephants, duikers, forest buffalo, and various primates will cross your path. Otherwise, look out for the unique overgrown plant species and dazzling colorful butterflies of over 300 species. Birds such as African green broadbill, great blue turaco, Grauer’s swamp warbler, Turner’s Eremomela, Shelley’s crimson wing, and Chapin’s flycatcher flying under the canopy will definitely capture your eye. You’ll cross rivers, streams, shaky bridges, climb fallen stumps and walk through damp forest floors connecting you to sapiens’ origins. However, at the other end, your driver will be ready to whisk you off, driving you through dreamy landscapes and delivering you to your luxury forest cottage hagging above the impenetrable jungle you just conquered.

A Life-Changing Adventure with Nkuringo Safari Experience! From the moment we arrived at the airport to the very end of our journey, our Nkuringo Safari Experience was nothing short of outstanding. Every aspect — from the warm welcome to the impeccable organization — exceeded all expectations. We are a family of three, traveling with our 15-year-old son, and we can honestly say this was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. The community hike gave us a deep and genuine insight into local life — authentic, meaningful, and beautifully guided. The gorilla trekking was beyond words — humbling, emotional, and simply unforgettable. Everything about this trip was perfectly executed: the service, communication, facilities, and thoughtful details (including the lovely gifts) showed true dedication and care. As hoteliers, we understand the immense challenges behind logistics, coordination, and service delivery — and we were deeply impressed by how seamless and professional everything was. A very special thank you to Emma, whose attention, kindness, and professionalism made everything flow effortlessly, and to our incredible driver and guide, whose dedication, knowledge, and warmth made us feel safe, inspired, and truly cared for throughout. This wasn’t just a holiday — it was an experience that touched our hearts and will stay with us forever. Nkuringo Safari Experience is an absolute gem, and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

I cannot say enough about our tour! We landed in Entebbe from Toronto, spent the night and flew out the next day to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Nkuringo Lodge. Spent 3 days, one of which was the magical Gorilla trek, along with community visits, hikes, seeing the Batwa people and lakes. It's was an amazing experience. The surroundings are awe inspiring, the people friendly and the gorillas awesome. Then we flew to Kibale to spend two nights at Primate Lodge, trekking to see the chimps. Truly another incredible experience watching them howl and jump and run at our feet. A once-in -a- lifetime. The trip was smooth, organized, on time and Diana was fabulous to work with. Our guides were knowledgeable, genuine and truly top-notch. Food, staff and accommodations were wonderful. I highly, highly recommend Nkuringo Safaris!

From the moment our driver, Patric Yiga, picked us up in Entebbe to begin our journey, we felt reassured that our travels would be safe. There were long hours spent driving and my many questions about Uganda were kindly answered. I still can’t believe how he could spot a leopard in a dense cactus! We were so lucky to see such wild creatures and the experience was unforgettable! The different lodges where we stayed, Isunga lodge, Kasenyi safari camp, and Nkuringo gorilla lodge were luxurious and offer truly wonderful meals and comforts of home. I have a much better understanding of lovely Uganda. I recommend the local foods, like matoke, that will give you energy on your journey! The people are genuine, the scenery and wildlife are a treasure for the world!

We were met at the airport by Milton our tour guide. Our holiday was made extra special by Milton. Every detail of this holiday package was so well thought through. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and the knowledge Milton has on Uganda, culture, wildlife, languages is better than Wikipedia and google. Thank you Milton for never getting tired of all the questions and always sharing your knowledge. Milton you were a star and gave us 10 star service, thank you.
