Kilimanjaro National Park
•Elevation (ft): 5,400ft to 9,400ft •Distance: 11 km •Hiking Time: 5-7 hours •Habitat: Rain Forest The drive from Moshi to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about 50 minutes. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain. We now leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Lower down, the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. We continue a short distance until we reach the Machame Camp.

As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point (18,600 ft), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all they way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

I summited kilimanjaro mountain by machame rout in 6 days, and it was challenging by all means. However, mafie’s team made easier and more enjoyable that difficult, I had such a professional team who took care of me during a week with superb service, kindness and supportive sense. A special gratitude to my guid Ombien, who helped beyond what a guide can provide, and he kept me focused and motivated to reach the summit, and he made every day during the course of the trekk so fun and engaging. Finally, an appropriation to Erastu, the owner, and the wonderful team he manages who took care of al the details while I kept myself focused on the journey and not worrying about anything. I recommend booking with them for any adventure, for their professionalism and dedication to their clients.

We had an excellent experience with Mafie Adventures. My father and I did the 6-day Mount Kilimanjaro climb via the Machame route and a 3 day safari. The team was fun, professional, and incredibly supportive. The food and accommodations provided were excellent. The porter service was outstanding, hardworking, and kind. My father experienced mild altitude sickness and our guides took exceptional care of him, making sure his safety was a priority, while our other guides helped me reach the summit. Our safari experience was beyond our expectations. The accommodations were beautiful, meals were great, and our guide was very knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Erastus and Oliver were excellent at communicating, responded to texts quickly, and provided solutions to all of our needs like hotels, food, transportation, etc. I would absolutely use this company again for future Tanzania travel. Overall, an unforgettable experience that was made extra fun and memorable by the Mafie Adventures team.

Excellent experience! This is a local company which I will always support before using a larger foreign owned operation. From the start of planning Oliver in the office was extremely prompt to answer any questions I may have had which made me feel at ease when there are SO many outfits to choose from that it can be overwhelming. My wife and I did a 5 day mid range safari that felt luxurious at all accommodations. Our guide Praygod(not sure of spelling) was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodated any needs we needed. He found so many cool animals for us to enjoy in their natural habitat. Overall just a good guy. My wife went home and I hiked Machame route with just me and my guide Oliver(different Oliver) he was also friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating to any of my needs. He explained things to me along the way and made sure I was healthy and good to go. We also had a team of 6 porters and a chef. These guys are absolutely insane when it comes to the hard work they do. I was well fed and my tent was always ready when we got to our respective camps. Please support this business, I highly recommend!

Had a brilliant experience with mafie adventures for a 7-6 day journey to the top. The food was exceptional, the guides were inspiring so much so that they were the main reasons we got to the top of the mountain despite rough altitude body reaction for some of us. All the team was extremely friendly. I would strongly recommend anyone to go for this.

I had the most incredible experience with Mafie Adventures! From the very first day I landed in Arusha, the owner went above and beyond to make my trip unforgettable. He personally took me on a private safari through Arusha National Park, which was the perfect way to start my adventure in Tanzania. The very next morning, everything was seamlessly arranged for my pickup to begin the 6-day Machame Route up Mt. Kilimanjaro. The climb was challenging but so well-organized, with great guides and support the entire way—I always felt safe and motivated. After the trek, I continued on a 4-day safari that exceeded all expectations. We explored the stunning landscapes of Tarangire, Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater (each stop offering something unique and breathtaking). Every detail was taken care of, from comfortable accommodations to smooth transfers, so I could simply focus on enjoying the wildlife and scenery. If you’re planning a trip to Tanzania, I cannot recommend Mafie Adventures highly enough. From Kilimanjaro to safari, they deliver an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

Amazing experience on the mountain. Mafie looked after us from start to finish and would highly recommend. Organised the whole trip through WhatsApp. The guides were very professional and the team of chefs and porters were top class and go the extra mile.

This was such a life changing trip and our guides were absolutely amazing. Erastus coordinated everything perfectly and paired us with an awesome team, Matthew our lead guide and Joshua both took us to summit and though we experienced some altitude sickness the entire team stayed on top of everything the entire time making sure we were enjoying ourselves as much as possible. Everyone needs to experience this at least once in a lifetime. We left with a new found love for the people of Tanzania and respect for Kili herself.

I did the 6 day Machame Route with mafie adventures. The guides spoke great English and communicated effectively, the porters were excellent and the food and facilities were all up to standard. We had a successful summit, and I’d recommend contacting Mafie adventures as one of the best value for money options out there. Competitive price and top service.
