On this self-guided audio tour, you'll meet the movers and shakers behind Geneva's Red Cross and the Protestant Reformation. Join producer Ariel Peter Haemmerlé - a certified Geneva tourist guide - as you explore Geneva's old town.
You'll embark on a journey to bygone Geneva and discover how a small city left a surprisingly large footprint in the fields of ethics, politics, history and science. On this walking tour, you’ll stroll through the cobbled streets to hear stories that began over 2,000 years ago and others that take us to the present day. Pierre will tell you who founded the city, what role the Celts and the Romans had in its formation, and who the Burgundians were.
You’ll learn about the Protestant Reformation, the Swiss Confederation, and the founding of the Red Cross and the Geneva Conventions.
Come along and explore Geneva's beautiful, storied corners as you retrace its journey to becoming one of the world's smallest cities with global significance.

Begin your journey at the old marketplace, Bourg-de-Four, and immerse yourself in Geneva's rich history. While passing by, any purchases made at the marketplace or entrance fees to nearby attractions are not included in the tour cost.
Walk by Geneva Cathedral, also known as St. Pierre Cathedral, and admire its architectural grandeur. While passing by, any entry fees to visit the interior or climb the tower are not included in the tour cost.

5.00The tour is great. You can stop and start as you like. We learned a lot and were happy for the tour. Only issue is I paid twice because when I downloaded the app I hadn’t yet gotten the Viator email with code and instructions. So if you buy through trip advisor, wait a few minutes and follow instructions in the email. When you download the app, it asks you to pay but the email has a code.

5.00Ariel was very easy to listen to and his tour was really informative. I like the format in that you can download at any time so can choose when you want to do your tour, and even do it more than once. You can also listen again to any part, pause if you want to spend longer at a particular place which I did, visiting the cathedral and going up to the towers for the panoramic view, well worth it in my opinion, and then restart again at that point. I very much enjoyed my tour, thanks Ariel and Voicemap team!

5.00Very informative, at the same time entertaining and humorous. Mr Haemmerlé has struck the right balance. The highlights are only a short distance apart. It is ideal that you can interrupt the tour at any time, for example to enter a museum or a building. For example, we visited St. Pierre in between and climbed the towers. Great view of Geneva! We loved the tour!!!

3.00Long process to download the map. The actual tour, while interesting enough about a small part of old down Geneva, is like attending a history lecture albet with a good voiced teacher. The church it covers extensively is interesting but you don't really need the tour for that. The navigator in the app is slow to upload so you walk a ways, think you're good, then it uploads and you're in the wrong place. Uggh.
