This isn’t just a food tour; it’s a walk through my own story. I was born and raised in Koukaki, and I still call it home. Through this experience, I’ll show you what life is really like here – past the guidebooks and into the real, everyday rhythms of the city.
We’ll sip wine the way locals do, and pop into beloved family-run eateries, bakeries, and delis that have stood the test of time. You’ll taste local favorites, hear the stories behind the recipes, and meet the people who make this neighborhood so special.
Koukaki sits just under the Acropolis, yet it remains a true local hub – full of character, creativity, and community spirit. As we walk, I’ll share personal anecdotes, hidden gems, and the lesser-known history of the area, giving you a deeper understanding of Athens’ local culture – all while we snack, sip, and stroll.

What To Expect
Koukaki District
We will explore Olympiou Street, the lively pedestrian area with all the bars and restaurants in the most local district in downtown Athens, Koukaki. We will try a souvlaki or gyros at my favorite local grill place.
Koukaki District
We will try another typical Greek savory snack, which is of course the phyllo pastry pies. The bakery is a local family-run business where I buy my bread and pies for more than 20 years. We will also have meze dishes at a local Greek Taverna (Mousaka, Tzatziki, Greek Salad, Gemista) and share local wine like locals do.

5.00Just beneath the Acropolis of Athens, the neighbourhood of Koukaki is full of quiet streets, family-run tavernas, and spots you’d never stumble into without being with someone in the know. We met up with Christina, who was warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable, and she led us to four local gems and into the heart of Greek home-style cooking. Since it was just myself and a family member, Christina took up on a private and customized tour! We had a variety of amazing Greek dishes I had never tasted before which included salads, mezze, slow-cooked dishes, juicy pork souvlaki in a pita, and finally, loukoumades! These are crispy little dough puffs soaked in honey and finished with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Think of them like Greek doughnuts! It was just a perfect way to end the meal! This was such a fantastic experience and I can honestly say that meeting Christina and travelling through Koukaki with her was one of our most memorable experiences during our stay in Athens. This is a must-do tour and I highly recommend it. 10/10 stars!

From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, fun, and full of great energy with Christina. What made it even more special was the rooftop experience. The views were stunning, especially at sunset, and the atmosphere was just perfect relaxed, beautiful, and memorable. It was the kind of moment you just want to pause and enjoy. On top of that, the guide was fantastic: friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate. You can really feel the love and effort put into creating this experience. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to discover the city in a different way, combining great food, beautiful views, and a warm, welcoming vibe. I would 100% do it again!

5.00One of the best and final parts of my Greece excursion was a personalized food tour by Christina and this was hands down one of the best food tours I ever had! Christina is very knowledgeable about the food and culture of Greece and told some outstanding stories during the tour! If you do not book Christina you will definitely be disappointed in any other Athens Food Tour!

5.00This was such an immersive food tour into a different part of Athens that is vibrant and unique. Kristina was an amazing host, who clearly loves her city and the history surrounding it. We were treated to all of her favourite spots - all of which were 10/10 - where feasted on items we had never tried, like moussaka and briami, as well as more familiar dishes, like gyros/souvlaki. By the time we got to dessert, I could have rolled down the Acropolis hill. It felt like excellent value for the cost and that we were in no rush for it to finish. Thank you so much for such a fun experience. Would happily recommend.

Accompanied by Katerina, who guided me throughout the tour, I enjoyed delicious food and gained valuable insights. I didn't even notice how quickly time passed.
