Come with us for your small-group Aurora hunt for an ethical experience chasing the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. Our guides use forecasts and local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal. During the tour, your guide will take photos of you, which will be available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
During our time together in the wilderness, we will collect data for a citizen science project and help protect the Arctic nature through responsible tourism.
Relax by the fire with hot chocolate before returning to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our Aurora Hunters will do their best every night of the season. Increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights by joining on multiple evenings.

Some nights the clear skies are on the coast so we will chase the gaps here. On the location, your guide will set up a cosy campfire and serve a homemade meal. Absolutely outstanding even on a cloudy day in Tromso

5.00We took this on Christmas Day! And what an absolutely brilliant experience with Bart at Wandering Owls. The tour was timed perfectly and didn’t feel like a crammed bus tour. We were 6 of us in a large comfortable van. Though the skies in tromso were cloudy, Bart drove us through the night getting us even across the border in Finland. He told us stories of the auroras. Literally chopped wood on a dark windy roadside, made a fire. Got us hot soup and bread. Showed us how to read the many apps for the sightings etc. the tour was super enthusiastic, with us chasing the lights at different locations too. Overall took us about 7 hours all in all. We got full thermal suits, and boots. The area was extremely windy and cold, the snow near the Finland border was probably at least 2 feet deep as well. The grand finale was the warm drive back, with some polish music- a cup of hot chocolate and some ginger cookies he carried for us. All in all- totally worth it, super fun, and enriching. The pictures Bart took were outstanding too- super professional stuff- what a bucket list checked!! Ps: the ceo of the company is vegan, so the soup and even the hot chocolate is vegan! So there enjoy:)

5.00Hospitality and knowledge from Evgeni made this the perfect journey. We stopped at 5 spots to view and take photos. Each was better than the last. Due to Evgeni’s expert guidance we saw the light show dreams are made of not only in one location but movement in 4/5 spots. This tour exceeded all previous expectations and I feel so lucky to have been part of it.

5.00This tour exceeded our expectations. It was rainy and miserable in Tromsø so we thought we wouldn’t have any luck seeing the northern lights. However, Max our guide was very vigilant, constantly stopping to check the sky. We ended up seeing the northern lights in 4 different locations! Having a smaller group of only 8 was definitely worth every penny, as we could move on quickly and stop in locations where we weren’t surrounded by lots of other people and tour buses. The tour lasted through until the early hours of the morning, even though we had seen the lights after only an hour. A camp fire, some soup and hot chocolate kept us warm. Max was knowledgeable and a very good photographer; We now have some incredible photos - way better than those on our phones! Thank you Max and Wandering Owl.

5.00I had a great time with this experience. The group was small (only 5 people), which made it feel more personal and relaxed. Our tour guide, Bart, was very informative and friendly, and he took us to excellent spots to watch the beautiful Northern Lights. He also took professional photos of us and shared them afterward, which was a really nice bonus. Overall, it was a well-organized and memorable experience, and I highly recommend it ✨

5.00There is an element of luck to this tour, and we were lucky - 30 minutes out of Tromso we had clear skies and lovely auroras. Our guide, Bart, was very knowledgeable and friendly, shared lots of information in an appealing way. He also took great pictures :) The gear supplied was useful in the cold, and the snacks as well. Overall this is definitely an outfit I'd book with again.

5.00Despite the low probability of seeing the Northern Lights on 13 December 2025, this tour turned out to be truly exceptional. Our guide, Henrik, never gave up and fully embodied the spirit of an “Aurora hunt,” just as the tour promises. From the very beginning, he made us feel involved in the process, teaching us how to track potential Aurora activity by identifying cloud openings using forecast apps and a high-detail professional camera. We made several stops throughout the night before finally reaching our main camp spot, where Henrik guided us through setting up camp. All necessary equipment was thoughtfully provided by the Wandering Owl team, including warm gear, food, and materials to light a fire. Shortly after, we were lucky enough to catch a brief appearance of the Northern Lights and managed to take a few photos before they faded. While waiting, we enjoyed insightful conversations about Norway, Tromsø, and the science and folklore behind the Aurora. Henrik answered all our questions with honesty, enthusiasm, and clear expertise, which made the experience even more engaging. As we prepared to head back, Henrik suggested continuing the hunt and made three additional stops. His persistence truly paid off. At around 3:00 a.m., we reached a location where the Northern Lights appeared again — this time bright, clear, and beautifully dancing across the sky. To make the night even more extraordinary, we were also treated to a visible Geminid meteor shower. We were able to take incredible photos, and we cannot thank Henrik and the Wandering Owl team enough for not only providing us with new skills and professional photos to keep, but also for giving us an unforgettable — and likely once-in-a-lifetime — experience of witnessing both the Northern Lights and a meteor shower in one night. I am attaching photos of the beautiful night which shows the Aurora and meteor shower/shooting star.

5.00Beautiful night, top organization! Everything was perfect , the place to see the aurora borealis , the campfire with folding stools, warm soup in an individual Thermos , all the explanations about the phenomenon , photos . Thanks to the organizing team and our guide and driver!

5.00We picked a perfect night. Clear but cold. The lights appeared at every stop and each was better than the one before. Multiple colors and fantastic dancing. Aneta, built us a fire and had hot chocolate and tea for us. We were 7 people so a perfect size.
