This tour takes you over the beautiful area of Lakagígar, a crater chain that created in 1783 by one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history. From there we fly over Landmannalaugar, the beautiful valley between the mountains,before returning to Skaftafell. On this tour passangers will see glaciers, volcanoes and the beautiful landscape north of Mýrdalsjökull glacier.

What To Expect

Vatnajokull National Park

On this trip, your pilot will fly over Skaftafell, a popular camping site located in Vatnajökull National Park. With good luck you might be able to see Svartifoss, which is unique due to the basalt rock around it.

Breathtaking flight over part of Iceland's impressive interior

On May 29th I made a beautiful flight over the Laki craters and Landmannalaugar. I had made a reservation for the 11.00 flight, but since there is a minimum occupancy of 4 people, the day before I got a nice call asking if I agreed to be assigned at 13.00. I had already taken that into account with the daily schedule, so I did not find that a problem. On the spot I was neatly offered a cup of coffee and a cookie and I met my 4 'flight' enjoyed, cozy people from Texas. Since I was traveling alone, I was allowed to sit in the front seat next to the very friendly pilot. I wanted to see some of the Icelandic interior, since the F-roads were almost all still closed and you couldn't get there with a 4x4. Armed with a camera I took quite a few pictures during this breathtaking flight. The weather was also reasonably good, some showers were skilfully bypassed. Our pilot talked with great enthusiasm about the areas we flew over. What a fantastic view from above. Really impressive. Eventually we landed safely at the airport. After another nice cup of coffee and a nice conversation at the reception I said goodbye with a very satisfied feeling. Despite the fact that it costs quite a bit (but yes, Iceland is a more expensive holiday country) it is very worthwhile to do anyway !! In any case I wouldn't have missed this for the world:-)
