Departing from downtown Anchorage, the Coastal Classic Train travels south along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives to Seward at 1115 am, allowing plenty of time to explore this charming port town – or opt to take a marine wildlife & glacier day cruise into the nearby Kenai Fjords – before departing on the return journey at 6 pm that evening, arriving back to Anchorage by 10:15 pm.

Make sure you get tickets to Wheaton you closer to so you don’t have drive in town. We messed up and had to drive 55 minutes to catch train and we were 5 minutes away from a train stop. Also don’t try to get the stop changed to closer stop they won’t even think about it like nope.

It was nice to walk around the city though can get done with that pretty fast so may want to book something to fill the time.

Took a round trip from Anchorage to Seward, was a great trip! Easy check in process in Anchorage & Seward. However the only thing I will add is when you get to D, E, F cars they aren’t labeled inside so it’s confusing which cart you’re in! The carts could use a fresh coat of paint but that’s me being picky!! All in all great trip!! Would definitely label the insides of the carts I had so many people ask what cart they were in!

Relaxing, low stress means of vista binging. Steward is even low key, but fun. The Sea Life Center has many creatures of interest. Wildlife on the trip was interesting.

Great experience. Have something to do when you reach the town otherwise you’re in for a long wait for the return trip.
