What could be nicer on a quiet, sunny day than a trip to the zoo with the family, your partner or even on your own? The zoo is the only one of its kind worldwide. At 750 meters, it is Europe’s highest-lying zoo, but it is also easy to get to and not far from the city center.
There are many different animals waiting to be seen at the zoo such as lynx, eagles, fish, and birds, as well as wolves and bears. Spring is a particularly interesting time to visit because that is when young animals are born and there is usually a lot going on! At the petting area, rare and local species of cows, pigs, goats and sheep can be seen up close.
The ride with the Hungerburgbahn starts at the Station Congress near the center of Innsbruck and brings you in 5 minutes to the Station Alpine Zoo, then back again after your zoo visit.

Only went because it was included with the Innsbruck card. Don’t bother! A poor bear on his own in a small enclosure. Birds with not enough space to fly and poorly maintained other areas.

We really enjoyed this zoo however it’s very steep. One person in our group couldn’t make all the hills so they had to stay at the bottom. Just be prepared to get a workout in at the zoo.

Confirmation email would not give me the voucher needed and had to buy one at the station. Still a good experience, just don’t buy it through Viator.

Comfortable combo ticket to enter the zoo and use the funicular. In August under the sun too hot to be able to see all the animals present. Anyway it's worth it

Loved the Zoo as it focused on local mammals. The railway up was an experience and the views from both were breathtaking.

We paid a total of 80 euros for our visit (incl. ride on the less exciting, but mega-full and stuffy Hungerbergbahn). Not necessarily a cardboard stick. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the zoo. Everything looked so far like well maintained and beautifully laid out enclosures. Unfortunately, however, a disproportionate number of them were simply empty. This can happen here and there, but in our opinion it was disproportionately often in the entire zoo area. And sometimes there were just no animals to see, although maybe there were some. Overall, the animal selection was also rather manageable. The highlight that everything ends up on is the bear enclosure (or should be). Here we could see two bears, one of which was feeding relatively calmly, the other, larger but suffering from terrible hospitalism, constantly running back and forth outside the shop window and finding no rest. All in all, unfortunately, a disappointing experience!

We came here as a stop by tele-freak and our expectation were very high for the place as we have expected to see many animals. Once we entered, we saw some birds in a big cage , a farm mouse some turtles and fishes. Then a handful of other animals were seen like the otter and brown bear. There is a play area for children and a museum.

Excellent zoo, exactly as described. Not all wildlife visible on the day but good enclosures. Information provided was not totally clear on where to get on funicular

We stayed at this zoo with our 2-year-old daughter. It was wonderful! Clean environment with many well kept animals. Organized very very well and although there are climbs a little more uncomfortable, they are done serenely with any type of stroller. Highly recommended especially for families with small children.
