It's stunning to suddenly find yourself staring at a gigantic canyon in the middle of a vast, flat prairie that's on the edge of a desert. It's not the Grand Canyon - nothing is- but it is very impressive, especially considering its location. The exhibits in the little buildings are very informative and well done in typical displays. The road goes down into the bottom of the canyon and gives you some great views of the earth's various strata and the scruffy vegetation. Despite it being early April, the annoying little black flies had already begun to buzz our heads. At nearly 80 years old, my wife and I decided our hiking days were behind us (although most of the trails were described as relatively mild). But we did stop frequently and viewed the impressive rock formations and the remarkable terrain. It was also surprising how many people were in the park at this time of year. It is a good time to visit. It was dry and only warm. Even a few weeks later, it could be extremely hot. There was about 10 degrees warmer in the canyon bottom than at the top. The drive from DFW was about 6 hours on mostly good roads. But the road leading directly to the canyon entrance from the interstate does need repaving soon. It was OK, but had considerable harshness in too many spots. Oddly, when leaving, the other side of the road was much better. It was an interesting and enjoyable visit for part of a day. If you decide to hike the trails, it could easily take a full day and even longer. (And contrary to the several reviews, we did get some cell reception in the bottom. I just wouldn't depend on it being consistent and available for emergencies.)

Not sure why Viator/TripAdvisor are still listing this tour and taking money for it. A no show from the operator. No response to direct messages or cell calls. We weren’t the first victims either. We have received a full refund for the cost of the tour but wasted cab fares and overseas cell charges and over an hour of our time getting there/back from our hotel and sorting with Viator. When Viator cannot get any cell response either it’s time to take down these rogue operators.

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR. They failed to show, zero communication. All the way from the UK to wait at the pick up - which was in the middle of an dodgy industrial estate - only for a no show. Fabulous.

You have to have something to review to give one. The operator never showed up and the number was disconnected. I put in a request for a refund with trip advisor as well as my cc company. I’m an understanding person, but no ability to communicate with a false phone number, it’s a scam.

No one showed up to meet us at the meeting location, nor did they respond to my message or to Viator support. We ended up going to the tour locations on our own but for the price, I was very disappointed.

Amazing views! Saw so many things I hadn’t seen before and went to two different places. Also great to get away.

Sal was our guide and he did a really great job accommodating us. We enjoyed being driven around Amarillo, shown all the best sites to see in town. The air conditioned van was very comfortable. Sal was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour. Sal accommodated our special requests and had lunch at a local favorite. Saw Cadillac Ranch, RV Museum, The Legs, Canyon area, AND Second Amendment Cowboy. The tour provided spray paint for our two stops that needed it. Also the trip had excellent narrative of the history Amarillo. 5 star tour!

We had a lovely tour of Amarillo and Palo Duro Canyon and Sal was a great tour guide. We were able to see the canyon based on our hiking skill and abilities but still saw many important spots. Even the drive around Amarillo and Canyon and learning about the history of the place, the houses, buildings, and people was very nice. We also got waters and spray paint cans for Cadillac Ranch. I highly recommend the tour.

First Sal was excellent. Very polite, on time, respectful of my trip and genuinely wanted me to have a good time. His knowledge was also excellent about Amarillo and Palo Duro. This was my very first tour of anything. Sal had set a high bar. Thank you so much for a Fantastic and Memorable trip!
