Experience the best of Amsterdam through its food, canals, and culture on this immersive Amsterdam Food Tour. Taste Dutch classics and reinventions, Surinamese street food, and artisanal cheeses — all while exploring the city’s most charming neighborhoods and iconic waterways.
This is a Sherpa Food Tour, part of our global collection of High-Fidelity Local Experiences for curious travelers and passionate food lovers.
You’ll start with bold Surinamese flavors, enjoy creamy veal croquettes, and stop at a trendy brown café where classics meet new wave. Walk the iconic canals, explore the Jordaan, and hear how migration and trade shaped one of the world’s most multicultural food scenes.
You’ll sample a Dutch cheese tasting, enjoy modern comfort food, and end with dessert and jenever — a spirited goodbye shared with fellow food lovers.
This isn’t just a food tour — it’s a cultural deep dive into the heart of the Netherlands. Join us and leave full, inspired, and just a little bit tipsy.

Waterlooplein Market
We meet outside a cozy café in Waterlooplein, once a canal and the heart of the Jewish quarter. Now a bustling market, it reflects Amsterdam’s layered, imperfect charm.
We start underground — literally — with bold, bright Surinamese bites that hit hard with flavor and history. Born from migration, loved by locals, and hiding in plain sight.

Maddy was a great tour guide, very personable and knowledgeable. We visited several small shops and restaurants, trying vexatious foods from delicious cheeses to raw fish. Very knowledgeable about the history, places to go, and things to do.

Each location had different options, overall good portions, and it was very dutch!! So much fun, Ginevra was a great guide. I am gluten free and she talked with the people at each location to make sure there was something I could eat! She was knowledgeable and very welcoming.
