Van Gogh went to the opening of the Rijksmuseum in 1885. He was waiting for his friend, in the meantime he made a sketch of Amsterdam in oil paint. That day he went to the Rijksmuseum, left his bag with the painting in the wardrobe. Now 150 years later, the painting is back and on view!

5.00My two-hour tour with Ank passed in a blink of the eye. We hit it off immediately as we both realized our shared passion for art history. She is a knowledgeable art historian and researcher who seamlessly wove together architecture of the museum, the Dutch masters, the history of The Netherlands, with the stories of the Dutch people. When Ank saw a piece that had recently been returned to the exhibition hall, she was obviously pleased and couldn't hide her enthusiasm. When I saw an old favorite painting she respected my reactions to the work. She intuitively understood what I needed when I needed it. Ank is an excellent tour guide and this company proved itself above and beyond my expectations. I will not hesitate to book another tour with Amor Artium because the Love of the Arts is clear to all who tour with them.

She showed us how to really look at a piece of art and how to admire and critique what we were looking at. Thoroughly recommend this tour and the professional company that runs it.

5.00Together with my sister I joined the private art tour from Amor Artium at the Rijksmuseum, and it was one of my highlights of my visit to Amsterdam. The tour was led by two young art experts who spoke about art with so much passion and enthusiasm. Very inspiring! I really appreciated that the tour didn't focus only on the famous, mainstream paintings (although you do get to see those as well). We also were introduced to lesser-known artworks and objects, including very interesting, and fun facts. Their insights made me look at the art in a different way and helped my better understand the historical context of the time. Also, the pace of the tour was perfect. We never stood too long in front of an artwork, but it also never felt rushed. There was room to ask questions and to engage in a conversation. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a deeper, more engaging museum experience that feels lively, accessible, and anything but dry.

5.00I had an absolutely outstanding tour at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The experience was informative, engaging, and perfectly paced. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the history, art, and stories behind the masterpieces to life in a way that was both accessible and fascinating. I gained a much deeper appreciation for the collection and the museum itself. The tour was well organized and felt personal, with plenty of time for questions and discussion. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Amsterdam !

The tour guides are very knowledgeable about the art works and history, but most importantly they know how to tell the story to their audience. There was enough room for questions, interaction and conversation throughout the tour due to the group size. This really created depth to the tour and it painted a bigger picture. Thank you for the amazing afternoon!
