Join Beer Hiking Bavaria author as he takes you along the Way of St. James en route to the hilltop Andechs monastery. Note that this is a private tour and can be tailored to your group's needs.

The beautiful Lake Ammersee is one of Bavaria's largest lakes and a natural wonder to behold.

Transportation to and from hike via public transportation.
This is a private tour. It's just your group however many people you sign up.
We will be stopping a number of small rural brewpubs and all food and beverages are at your own expense.
Food at brewpubs is also at your own expense.

5.00This was our favorite tour on our trip to Munich! Rich was incredibly knowledgeable about Munich and surrounding areas and most of all Beer! We learned so much and the hike to Andechs was beautiful. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Highly recommend! Thank you Rich for the wonderful experience!

5.00This tour was definitely a highlight of our vacation. Rich Carbonara our guide was phenomenal. He was knowledgeable, professional, accommodating, easy going, and was committed to providing a great experience for us. The hike up to the monastery was relatively easy, scenic, and Rich provided great stories along the way. He takes his beer seriously and we learned so much on the tour. He also provided resources and tips for the next two countries we were visiting. The lunch was delicious and the beer was excellent, and Andechs is in a beautiful setting. Everyone should do this tour especially if you like beer!

5.00We scheduled this as a final day business excursion. It had been an exhausting week and the weather had been cold all week so the group for the hike had diminished to just 3 women. The three of us had such an enjoyable time on the hike, it was just what we needed to recover from sitting all week in meetings. It was a truly memorable and bonding experience and the sun even came out as we reached the lake to smile upon us. Rich was equal parts patient, accommodating, and entertaining. Moreover the views are amazing and the food was fantastic!

5.00Highly recommend this experience with Beerwanderers, this was one of the highlights of our trip to the Munich area! The owner and our guide Rich is personable and extremely knowledge about the region, beer and the Andech’s monestary/ brewery. Rich accompanies you on the train from Munich, making the trip easy. The hike up from Herrsching is beautiful, our group were all seasoned hikers, so we would rate the hike easy with a moderate grade for most of the climb. And the route is shaded by trees for the majority of the hike. Andech,’s is a very special place: the beer, food (butcher on site, so all the meat we had was extraordinary), setting, and ambiance make for a perfect lunch and rest. Ending the hike down with a beer on lake Ammersee was the perfect ending. In my opinion this is a must do experience for a visit to Munich. Prost!
