Huskies are one of the most loved animals of the north, and you will understand why when you meet the pack at Apukka. You can pet them, pose on photos with them and listen to stories about the lives of the huskies. They absolutely love pulling loads and running on the trail across the forests.
The highlight of the day is the 7–10 km long safari, where you get to be the musher yourself, in other words control the pack of huskies towing the sled.

Very careless staff with tourists and animals. Several dogs are obviously too agitated for inexperienced tourists to control and staff do not try to calm them down or replace those that do not seem safe. During the wait before the departure, several dogs were fighting among themselves and the staff was only shouting at them. The person behind us could not control the dogs from his sled, extremely agitated before the departure. He passed us en route, hitting us - our sled was pushed slightly off the trail. The lady who accompanied us began to mutter in an unkind manner. After this incident, the dogs of the same sled started shooting in a disorganized way, each in its own way - the sled was no longer advancing. The lady didn't even intervene to help them. For us, everything went well, but it was worrying to see the lack of support for the people who seemed to be struggling behind us. The scenery was beautiful, the dogs endearing and very eager for affectionate interactions, but one can enjoy it by avoiding encouraging this type of catch-and-see activity that seems so unethical - unfortunately, I realized it after having this experience...

My 1st dog sledding and it did not disappoint. Beautiful resort with a nice adventure center. Easy to follow instructions on driving the sleigh. After the trip we were offered hot juice and cookies by a fire. I wish o had booked other excursions with this tour operator. Lifetime memories were made to hold and cherish for a lifetime.

The husky experience itself was positive, albeit a bit short for the cost. We met the guide, learned how to use the sled, and drove the sled for 45 minutes or so, and then got to pet and take photos with the dogs, who were adorable. However, beware of the pickup and customer service! We were waiting indoors on a -15 degree day, with clear sightlines to the outdoor bus stop in Santa's village where the bus was supposed to pick us up. We were there 5 minutes early, and the bus had not arrived yet. Even though we got out to the bus stop right on time, and the bus had already left!! The customer support was rude and offered no help, saying if we don't find our own way to the resort within the next few minutes, our experience was forfeit. I've never seen a pickup service leave immediately upon arrival, without even checking for missing passengers. If we hadn't immediately found transportation, we would've lost over 300 euros on the spot. Book at your own risk!

I’m very disappointed with this husky sledding experience in Lapland. From start to finish, the activity was poorly organized and deeply concerning from an ethical standpoint. We were left waiting around 20–30 minutes before the activity even began because the guides couldn’t get the dogs under control. The dogs were extremely agitated and fighting each other, and the team had to repeatedly swap them around before setting off. This made the entire experience feel chaotic and unprofessional. Once the ride finally started, it was disrupted again because one of the female dogs stopped running — the guide mentioned she was too young and it was her first time pulling a sled. The team eventually had to stop the sled midway, remove the dog, and carry her away, which I’ve attached a photo of as evidence. This incident clearly shows how disorganized and unprofessional the activity was. I want to note that I am genuinely worried about the welfare of that dog. I hope that the attached photo is not used in any way that results in the dog being punished or mistreated. My concern is solely to highlight how poorly managed and unethical the experience was — not to cause any harm to the animals involved. What was most upsetting was the guides’ indifference toward the dogs. You would expect people who work so closely with these animals to show care and affection, but instead they seemed detached and unconcerned. It was uncomfortable and sad to watch. At the end of the experience, we were offered tea and biscuits — however, the biscuits were stale and unappetizing, which added to the overall sense of neglect and low quality. This experience was marketed as ethical and animal-friendly, but what I witnessed suggested otherwise. The lack of organization, the use of untrained or too-young dogs, and the disregard for animal welfare made the entire activity distressing and unacceptable. I do not wish to support or contribute financially to this kind of unethical operation in Lapland.

Thanks to Fanny at the front desk we were able to register at the last minute. It was autumn so no snow but what was good!!! I forgot the name of our guide but she was really passionate and an invaluable source of information. The dogs are beautiful, we had a long visit afterwards where we learned a lot. It was very interesting.

Fantastic! Everything went smoothly, the bus transfer from Roveneimi city, all the cold weather gear you need is supplied, the sleigh was ready for us, the huskies are very well cared for and clearly love their job. Not cheap but absolutely worth the money.

This was a very well-run activity. I was staying in Rovaniemi, not at Apukka Resort itself, but they have a shuttle bus that was on time, very comfortable and very easy to find. If you don’t have warm, waterproof gear they give you insulated overalls. You then get a short but very adequate lesson on sleigh-driving - mushing - and get taken straight into the dog yards, where the trains of dogs are hooked up and going crazy with excitement at the chance to go for a run. It is very noisy! But then as soon as each sled gets moving the dogs are silent, just very happily trotting along. It is quite gorgeous. The route is about 8km and takes maybe an hour, including stops to change drivers and take photos. It is such good fun that of course one would like the tour to last longer, but the dogs do this x3 per day and so it is fair enough that the active part of this activity is only about an hour. After you get back you get a chance to pat the now-relaxed dogs, and then the guidestake you into one of the tee-pee structures for hot lingonberry juice and a chat about dog-sledding. It was a very fun way to spend a morning and I recommend it. If you want to do a much longer tour then I assume you need to make special arrangements and perhaps with another company, but for an ‘experience’ this was a lovely way to spend effectively a half-day. Also, the dogs here were obviously well cared-for and happy, in fact it seems that Apukka receives dogs rescued from less-reputable operators. That’s a big pointer in their favour. Recommended.

We heard from others about this activity. This was the first time we rode with Husky dogs. It was a great experience. We loved it
