  • Fabulous Sami cultural experience

We absolutely loved this tour, we were lucky to be a small group of six. The scenery was so beautiful and feeding the reindeer was lots of fun. Our guide made it so special by sharing a lot of his Sami culture, history, stories and music. He even made a special effort to stop and buy ice spikes for some guests and we really enjoyed spending time with him. Do not hesitate to do this tour, it is really worthwhile.

We had the most fantastic experience, with Ole, from start to finish. We were a perfect small group of 22 in a mini-bus. We saw stunning scenery en route to the reindeers and were able to stop for photos. It was amazing to get up close to the reindeers and feed them. We then went into a traditional Sami tent for hot drinks, stories and singing. Ole and his younger colleague were interesting and informative. We then proceeded to a lovely hotel for lunch before heading back. Ole sat with us for lunch and we found it fascinating to hear him talk about his life as a Sami. So glad we decided to do this trip as it made our holiday so special.

On a trip to Tromso my wife and I, and four friends arranged to visit the Tromso Artic Reindeer village. From the minute we boarded our coach in Tromso Bus Station we knew we were in for a special day. The Sami lady who met us and came with us on the coach was very friendly and funny. Once at the village it was an amazing expereince. After a welcome talk in a typical Sami tent with a roaring wood fire we went out to feed the reindeer. There were approximately 350 reindeer to feed. They are so gentle and inquisitive. The ones we fed all had their own quirky characteristics. Then we went for a reindeer sled ride around the site. There was a clear blue sky with the moon showing, snow on the hills and mountains and the fjord just a short distance away - magical. Then we went into another building for lunch beside another roaring fire. The final part of the day was to listen a talk about the Sami and the Sami nation by an excellent young lad. It was so sad to hear how the Sami people had been treated in the past but so encouraging to hear how they had maintained their culture and traditions and were thriving. Would strongly recommend this trip.

This tour was so so special. I urge anyone reading reviews of other companies to not think twice and book with wandering reindeer. As others have said, this tour is not " touristy", it is family run and a real experience spending the day with Ole, a Sami. The scenery along the way is breathtaking stopping at different mountains and Fjords. The reindeer herder, again he is Sami guiding us through and teaching us about his herd. We got to hand feed the reindeer as they moved around us. Then into the traditional Sami tent, the Lavvo, to learn more of the traditions and the singing. The bonfire was roaring and we had hot drinks and biscuits. There are boots and suits to borrow if needed. Nothing is rushed, you spend plenty of time with all the reindeer. In Sommery lunch was included with several options, and were large portions. To go with a small group and local you get a real personal experience, to top off as we were driving back to Tromso at about 3pm we could see glimmer of the northern lights. Ole drove out of his way to find us a dark spot to see them. You won't get this at another tour, you will get set times and 100s of people. This was one of the most special tours I've been on. Thank you Ole.

We have just returned from a truly fantastic day with Ole. This tour is really not " touristy" and you learn so much about the Sami people and their way of life. The scenery is breathtaking and we stopped along our route at some visually stunning mountain and fjord views as we travelled along Then we stopped at the reindeer herder, again he is Sami and we saw the traditions of herding. We got to hand feed the reindeer as they moved around us being inquisitive. Then into the traditional Sami tent, the Lavvo, to learn more of the traditions and the singing. The bonfire was roaring and we had hot drinks and biscuits. Ole does have boots and suits to borrow if needed. Nothing is rushed, you spend plenty of time with all the reindeer. On to lunch at a nice hotel, where the lunch was included wirh several options, and were large portions. Again we were able to walk around, taking photos and absorbing the stunning coastline and Fjords. If you want a real Sami experience, with wonderful people, spend the day with Wondering Reindeer, You will have a fantastic experience

What I loved most about this experience was that it was a small group and it felt like a very authentic experience, not overly touristy. Our guide was so nice, and the day was very well structured. It didn’t feel rushed. Getting to interact with the reindeer and learn about the Sami culture was so special! And the islands we visited were so beautiful.

We got lost on the way to the meeting spot, but that was my fault for relying on Google maps and having a terrible sense of direction. Luckily, our tour guide actually called me to ask where I was and led me back to the meeting spot. We left pretty much on time, and hit the ground running. Olle (I might have misspelled it so I'm sorry but that's what it sounded like) was very good at informing us about Sami culture and history while we drove to several stopping points before we got to the reindeer. We stopped at a hotel in Sommarøy to use the restrooms and get some water and coffee. Some people got the chance to put on snow suits, but I felt confident enough in my clothing to not need it. Once we were back in the van, he kept speaking to us about the Nordic and Sami cultures and even spoke a bit of Sami language to us. We got to the reindeer area, which was not fenced in, so it was truly magical to see "wild" reindeer come running down the mountain at the sound of the bell! The reindeer herder (I apologize but I forgot his name) gave all of us food and instructions on how to feed the reindeer safely (be careful with your eyes!). The reindeer were very friendly and walked all around us the entire time, which was truly a wonderful experience! After feeding them for maybe an hour or so, we went into a Lavu tent, where our two guides provided us with hot chocolate, tea and biscuits! As we sat around the fire on reindeer pelts, we were told more about the Sami culture and how reindeer herding works. We learned about our hosts' families and traditions as well. After we finished our beverages, Olle took us back to Sommarøy to eat lunch, which was a very good buffet. We got the chance to speak and meet with other people on the tour, and afterwards, went out to the deck to take some pictures of the beautiful landscape. I truly enjoyed myself, and I would 100% recommend this to anyone who would love to meet some awesome reindeer and learn about Sami culture.

It was a great experience. Although we faced a bad weather, our tour guide could find a good place to take a picture. He provided us with thermal suit so everyone was comfortable and warmth with the weather. It was nice experience in feeding the rain deer and got to know sami culture. The lunch was good. Really recommend this tour.

Unforgettable experience with good tour guidance. At the reindeer farm was left free space and you could ask questions at any time. Tour in minibus with 20 people, not crowded, perfect!
