We did the reindeer feeding and snowshoe experience (we are 65 & 70yo). Bus picked up/returned to bus station as it is a 1/2 ride to site. We got to feed the reindeers and had a one-on-one conversation with Daniel, a Sami, who was so charming and friendly and explained the Sami way of life and taking care of the herd, he is a sweetheart! The snow shoeing was a perfect pace, stopping a few times for pictures, storytelling by our guides Zoe and Elvis who were both knowledgeable and kind and some hot chocolate and cookies. This was followed by a first time for us, reindeer stew, which tasted very much like beef. Don’t miss this, it is a must to book!!!!

We had the most wonderful experience with this tour. Impeccably organized and very informative. It was a pleasure to explore the surroundings of Tromsø and to get so many highly interesting information about the Sami, their culture and way of life. Our guide and driver Ule was so nice and competent! He made the drive highly interesting, we felt always safe with him. His friend, the reindeer herder, was very friendly and it was great that he gave us so many highly interesting insights into Sami culture. This tour is unforgettable, don't miss it! Highly recommended!

This was such a fantastic experience and offered a lovely glimpse into the lives of a local Sami family on their reindeer farm. Our guides were so warm, friendly and helpful, It was a truly authentic experience, with Reiulf and his daughter sharing some fantastic stories along the way. The experience was well rounded and offered a lovely mix of scenic drives, time feeding the reindeer and learning about Sami culture, and a lovely lunch at a hotel in Sommarøy. I’d absolutely recommend this experience for anyone looking for an authentic experience.

We started our tour in a small van in Tromsø and drove to several impressive lookouts from which we could marvel at the beautiful Arctic fjords. We were especially lucky with the weather, which made the trip even more memorable. ☀️😊 A real highlight was a visit to a small reindeer farm (about 30 reindeer) run by a Sami family. After an extensive round of feeding and petting the reindeer, we received a lot of exciting information about the animals and the Sami culture. In a traditional Sami tent (Lavvu), the hosts told us about their everyday life and cultural heritage. The three hosts were exceptionally warm and provided a very family atmosphere around the campfire. Over a hot drink we even got to experience their traditional Joik singing — a really special experience. It was particularly interesting to learn that each family has its own Joik and this plays an important role, for example, in weddings or even after the death of people. Exciting details about the wildlife, such as the fact that large eagles are predators of reindeer, also made the tour very lively. In addition, it was also very exciting to hear about the world of legends and that storytelling is a component of culture as well as child-rearing. At the end of the day we stopped at a restaurant where we ate very delicious. Throughout the tour there was a positive and pleasant atmosphere throughout. All in all, it was an all-round successful excursion, which we can highly recommend. 🦌♥️ English translation: We started our tour in a small van in Tromso and drove to several breathtaking viewpoints from which we could admire the beautiful Arctic fjords. A lovely day on what is a small personalised trip with original Sami Driver/Host. Plenty of stops to take in the scenery and take photos, nice lunch stop, and a nice way to spend the day.

This has been one of the best trips we have taken! Our tour guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We drove West towards the beach, stopping at various Fjords and picturesque locations. We then stopped at the Reindeer Farm, where we fed reindeers and warmed up in the Sami traditional tent. We were provided with coffee / tea / hot chocolate and learnt about the Sami culture, the traditional attire and the difference between Sami People. Our guide also sang joiks, Sami traditional songs. This was an experience in itself, very informative and interesting. We then drove to Sommaroy, stopping along the way at more picturesque spots. We had a buffet-style lunch in Sommaroy before returning back to Tromso. We were a small group (approx 15 people) which was great. We enjoyed the trip very much and would wholeheartedly recommend it!

Reiulf, our guide and co-owner of Wondering Reindeer, has found just the right mix of sigthseeing, information and authentic sami/reindeer experience. He has made regular stops at points with magnificent views with enough time for photos. A highlight for me was the crossing from Ersfjordbotn to Norffjordbotn via a pass that created a high alpine feeling (the pass was just 150 m above sea level). After a good 1.5-hour stay at his reindeer farm (whoever needed it could equip themselves with a warm jumpsuit as well as lined shoes, there was also the opportunity to go to the bathroom) including feeding and staying at the Lavvu (traditional Sami tent) including hot drinks, we then continued to Sommarøya, where lunch (good selection including vegetarian options) was taken in a hotel. Again, there was plenty of time to explore the fantastic landscape and take pictures before heading back to the starting point in Tromsø. Reiulf steered our bus safely even in challenging road conditions.

Don’t even bother looking at other tours in Tromso - this is the best one! Our guide was knowledgeable, interesting, fun, and engaging. He first took us to a few fjord photo spots that were breathtaking - places big busses can’t get to. He talked about Norwegian and Sami culture and gave a rich history of the area. Then we went to his friend’s reindeer pasture and fed the adorable reindeer for about an hour. We then went inside for fire and hot drinks & cookies to learn more about the Sami traditions. He drove us to the Sommarøy islands and we were in awe! So beautiful. Lunch was at a hotel and was absolutely delicious, had vegetarian / vegan options as well. We were back in Tromso by 3:30. Such a good day. Just book it.
