Cabo Girao
- Cabo Girão: Our first stop, we go up to the magnificent viewpoint of Cabo Girão, 580m high and with a glass balcony, famous for being the highest in Europe and the second highest cliff in the world.
Ribeira Brava Beach
- Ribeira Brava: Traveling along the coast of the island, we soon arrive at the village of Ribeira Brava, where we can visit a church dating from the 15th century.
Madalena do Mar
- Madalena do Mar: Then we continue to Madalena do Mar, a short visit through the lush green banana plantations.
- Fonte do Bispo: From an altitude of between 1300-1500 meters we find the tourist attraction of Paúl de Serra and the beginning of several walks along the levadas that connect to different points of the island through the Laurissilva forest with a stop at Fonte do Bispo point of view.
Porto Moniz
- Porto Moniz: Next, we stop for lunch and extra time in the seaside town of Porto Moniz - home to the largest natural volcanic pools in Madeira. On our descent towards the village we can enjoy fantastic views, especially of the volcanic pools in their entirety. In good weather it is possible to go for a swim, so come prepared. Stop for lunch/free time, about 1.30 to 2 hours stop.
Miradouro do Veu da Noiva
- Seixal Viewpoint: Then we make a brief stop in Seixal. Along the way, we have the pleasure of passing by several waterfalls, with emphasis on the famous and stunning Véu de Noiva waterfall. Looking at the water running down the mountain, you can see how the rock face has been delicately sculpted by wind and rain over millions of years to form what can only be described as the perfect art form.
Sao Vicente
- São Vicente: Then we visit the picturesque neighboring village of São Vicente, where you can visit a beautiful church dating from the 17th century before returning to Funchal.
Baia de Camara de Lobos
- Câmara de Lobos: Located 5 km from the city of Funchal, our last stop is the picturesque and famous fishing village of Câmara de Lobos; a favorite painting spot of the late Winston Churchill!
Miradouro do Cristo Rei do Garajau
- Cristo Rei in Garajau: Located in one of the most surprising places on Madeira Island, the statue of Cristo Rei in Garajau is one of the most emblematic monuments on the east coast. It is a must visit, which conquers visitors for its unique landscape.
Machico
- Machico: Machico is a historic city that is the second most populous on the island. Located in the eastern zone, Machico was the first capital of Madeira between 1440 and 1496 under the captaincy of Tristão Vaz Teixeira. It was here that the first settlers settled in 1420 and Funchal only became the capital in 1508.
Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto
- Ponta de São Lourenço: Ponta de São Lourenço (Ponta do Rosto) is the easternmost point of Madeira and is a nature reserve with panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and spectacular rock formations; it is a unique landscape very different from the rest of the island.
Porto da Cruz
- Porto da Cruz: In Porto da Cruz, a small village located in the northeast of Madeira, an old rum distillery testifies to the importance of sugar cane for Madeira. Old steam machines set the rhythm of work in this distillery. The factory's original workers still maintain and keep the equipment operational. But despite this, Engenhos do Norte has recently opened its doors to visitors. You can enter freely.
Santana
- Santana: Santana is a charming village on the northeast coast of Madeira, known for its colorful triangular thatched houses. Nowadays they remain a tourist attraction, but their origin dates back to the 16th century. Santana is one of the most remarkable municipalities on the island of Madeira, offering some of the most breathtaking views and authentic Madeiran culture. It is even said that there is something magical about this region of the island. Stop for lunch/free time, about 1.30 to 2 hours stop.
Ribeiro Frio
- Ribeiro Frio: Ribeiro Frio is a natural park located in a deep valley in the north of the island surrounded by mountains. It's a popular stop for locals and tourists alike due to its trout farming pools and fascinating nature trails, ideal for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll. Along the trails you will find a variety of trees such as the laurel and, perched on them, birds endemic to the region such as the pigeon, the chaffinch and the bis-bis which is the smallest bird in Madeira.
Pico do Arieiro
- Pico do Arieiro: Pico do Arieiro is the third highest peak on the island of Madeira, with an altitude of 1818 meters. The views are fabulous, with clouds hovering over the fantastic rock formations - a scene impossible to describe. When the sky is clear it is possible to see the south coast of Madeira, Curral das Freiras and even the island of Porto Santo. On the way to Pico do Arieiro you can see a unique stone well, similar to an igloo, known as “Poço da Neve”, which was built by an English family to store ice, snow and hail from the mountains. In 2011, an air defense radar was installed on the summit of the peak. Pico do Areeiro is one of the most visited places on the island thanks to its easy access, stunning views and the famous trails that lead to Pico das Torres and Pico Ruivo.

I usually prefer to explore myself through hiking rather than driven tours, but this 2-day minibus tour was actually a fantastic introduction to Madeira, which I'd recommend. It allowed me to consider which areas I'd like to explore further later on in my stay. Renato was the perfect tour guide - providing a great insight on living in Madeira and so friendly, knowledgeable and funny! Thank you so much to Renato and to Alex (who was also a great guide) for making this a highlight of my trip. The service provided was extremely punctual, well-organised and the guides were so friendly, knowledgeable and fantastic drivers, navigating the roads of Madeira expertly. Thank you very much for the excellent tour both!

Lots of winding roads so sit at the front if travel sick. Take binoculars. West day remember to take swimming costume.

Both days of this tour were excellent as we went to many beautiful locations on both the east and west side of the island. Additionally, both guides were fantastic and taught us a lot about the culture and history of the island. This trip is highly recommended!

Renato made our short stay in Madeira spectacular! His fun stories and pointing out all the plants made the trip very special! Also we loved that we could go around by ourselves in the viewpoints or just stay an enjoy our time in a cafe. Thank you so much for the tour!

The trip gives an excellent idea of the island outside Funchal. The guide was good - warm, friendly and informative. She was also a very good driver (important in Madeira).

It is really nice to experience both west and east side, they both have unique views and feelings to it! Loved both: from beautifull beaches to huge hights. Upfront i was fantasticly and superfast helped by Catarina with the booking, Luis with perfect updates and during the trip the guide Paulo gave interesting information and drove very safe. On top of it, guide John from te other group was much fun and made it extra sparkling, alsotogether with the group, getting brief glimps of all stories. For real: Feeling Madeira,! 🌞 thank you all!!

Good to challenge yourself and at the same time to see the beautiful views of Madeira, 7km total with multiple parts so you can recover and also take pictures along the way, great hiking 🙌🏻 Use the appropriate technique that the guide recommends and you’ll be sure to finish it while having a good time enjoying the view 😎
