What To Expect
California Lighthouse
The California Lighthouse, commonly referred to by locals as Faro, rises prominently on a limestone plateau at Hudishibana, near Arashi Beach and the Sasariwichi dunes on Aruba’s northwestern coast. It is recognized as the tallest structure on the island. The lighthouse takes its name from the British steamship S.S. California, which sank in 1891—more than two decades before the lighthouse was constructed between 1914 and 1916. Its construction served as a safeguard to prevent similar maritime accidents. In May 2016, the lighthouse was fully restored in honor of its 100th anniversary.
Alto Vista Chapel
Alto Vista Chapel is a small Catholic chapel that stands on the hills above the north shore of Aruba. The present chapel was completed in 1952 and is located on the exact same location as the original chapel, which was built by the Venezuelan missionary in 1750.

4.00I traveled with my brother and my 2.5 year old. It was just the 3 of us for the hour and we paid $118 total. The pace was nice and the tour lasted almost 4 hours. The driver picked us up at the resort on time. The company says they provide refreshments and snacks, this meant a bottle of water and a bag of Cheetos 🤷🏾♀️. I wished the guide told us more about the history of the island including how it was discovered, what each region is known for. He mainly told us about the places we visited but even then, there was not much context . It was nice not feel rushed with the toddler but the overall experience could have been more enriching.

5.00My Aruba Countryside Tour was nothing short of amazing, and a huge part of that was thanks to our incredible guide, Dolfi! He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and truly passionate about sharing the history and beauty of the island. What made the experience even more special is that he doubled as my personal photographer—making sure I captured beautiful moments at every stop! The tour itself was fantastic, covering nearly 70% of the island and giving a well-rounded glimpse of Aruba’s culture, history, and natural beauty. We visited iconic spots like the California Lighthouse and the peaceful Alto Vista Chapel, explored the unique Casibari Rock Formations, and learned so much at the Aruba Aloe Factory, Museum and Store. We also enjoyed a drive-by of Aruba’s oldest residential home and stopped at the historic Bushiribana Gold Mine Ruins, which was absolutely fascinating.

5.00Our guide was Dolfie. He was born on the island. He did a great job of showing us HIS island. Lots of information and "extras" like taking a path along one stop to show us where owls like to roost. Or the home of a woman who was al.ost 100 and lived there her whole life. Then the interesting places on the island, The Aloe Farm, the lighthouse, the chapel and the rocks! Great afternoon, highly recommend!
