Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
During our time together in the wilderness, we will collect data for a citizen science project and help protect the Arctic nature through responsible tourism.
Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

We booked through viator and so glad that we did!! Coen was our guide & Cristobal was our driver and they were both so pleasant and informative. They took the time to get to know everybody and make sure everyone was taken care of. It was nice to use the shoes they provided as I kept sinking in the snow. They did have suits on hand as well. We were a group of 15 but it still felt intimate and nice to get to know each other. At first, I didn't think that I'd see the northern lights but it was so pretty the spots we went to and not full of big tour buses like others spots I went to previously. We were able to see the lights majority of the time. We went to a couple of spots and enjoyed a campfire with soup & bread under the northern lights & stars near the mountain. Coen made sure to capture nice photos of each party as well & gave recommendations for other things to do in Tromso. Such a good experience & would recommend booking!

Overall, a great experience, we visited at least two sites. The 2nd site we stayed for a couple of hours and got to see some green bands of light even with a KP index of 2.0 . Most aurora lights were faint to the naked eye and not as green but the phone camera captures it as vibrant green but there were a couple times that the lights were vibrant & green enough to the naked eye. Coen also took some great pictures of us that looked amazing.! Although the weather forecast predicted lots of clouds, the areas we visited had cloud gaps and we saw the aurora lights. Our tour guide Coen was friendly, very informative and accommodating. Cristobal was also helpful and a great driver. We ate some hot vegetable soup, had some gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate around a bonfire. I’d recommend for sure to get some cool pictures and experiences

A really good trip out into the beautiful mountains and made all the better by having a wonderful tour guide in Magda who brought such enthusiasm and knowledge to the trip. We saw hints of the Northern Lights but these things are never guaranteed but nonetheless major ensured we had a great time.

Less than pleased. We went to a common place and set up a fire. Sat there, had soup and listen to the guide talk. That’s it. Not much interest displayed by the guide in helping us find the light. Kept saying bad day, so it’s up to luck. Not much care for passengers safety (lights not provided although we had to walk in the snow for some distance). Everyone was picked and they didn’t care less but to put four grown men to squeeze at the back row. Totally uncomfortable! This trip was personally not worth it.

We booked with wandering owl randomly after searching on Google and checking reviews. We were not disappointed! The weather forecasts prior to our trip weren't hopeful and the team sent us an email to say our tour was being started later so they would have a better chance of seeing northern lights activity. This was really great and showed that the team work very hard to analyse conditions, look at weather reports and plan the tour to maximise our chances of seeing it. Remember that swing the lights isn't guaranteed, even on a very good condition evening, so it takes some effort to ensure we do! The guide Madga and driver Cris were super friendly and knowledgeable. They answered any questions we had, ensured the tour group were engaged and made it fun. They found a perfect spot for us to stop with clear starry skies and, luckily, our trip coincided with a geminid meteor shower so we were privileged to see many shooting stars amongst the star filled skies. We saw some light activity which always looks much more vivid on camera as compared to the human eye but it was beautiful nonetheless.

The Northern Lights hunt in Tromsø was simply incredible. We were a small group of around ten people, which made the experience feel very personal and intimate. Despite rather pessimistic weather forecasts with a very cloudy sky, our guide Isaac remained confident and highly involved throughout the evening. He constantly monitored solar activity and weather conditions, and eventually decided to drive us to Skibotn. And what a decision! The sky completely cleared, and the first Northern Lights appeared. For about one hour, they kept appearing one after another, becoming more and more intense and spectacular. It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Isaac also took the time to photograph each of us under the Northern Lights. A very appreciated disclaimer: the photos are included in the activity and they are absolutely stunning — like real postcards. A huge thank you as well to Michael, our driver, who drove all night to give us the best possible chance to see the Northern Lights, and who prepared a campfire where we enjoyed a delicious hot soup, perfect to warm us up. The activity lasted around 6h: we left at around 6pm and returned between 1-2am, without ever feeling the time pass because the experience was so intense. This is an absolute must-do in Tromsø, especially if you are lucky enough to get the Isaac & Michael duo. It is also a perfect activity for solo travelers, thanks to the warm and friendly atmosphere. I can’t wait to relive this magical experience ✨

Issac is superb tour guide, the Kp Index was at 1.7, and he managed to find a spot with clear sky so that we can witnessed the Northern Lights. It was raining and snowing heavily in Tromso, while we found a clear spot with very good Northern Lights activities.

Wonderful experience with an especially good guide called Mia who had an excellent balance of chasing the aurora with little gems of knowledge and interesting facts
