Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

When exceptional situations arise (e.g. environmental cancellations) it is important to reach you. This is easiest if you provide your contact number on the road (phone number + correct country code) & keep this with you on the day of the tour.
We only drop off at set drop off locations: Scandic Ishavhotel, Smarthotel, AMIhotel, Vervet, Wandering Owl office, Airport, Arctic Cathedral, Tromsø Camping bus stop, Breivika Cruise Dock
Winter equipment is included, please give us your clothing and shoe sizes - fill out ewaiver form
Please advise any specific dietary requirements at time of booking as well as medical condition if needed
Please bring your passport with you in case you need to cross to Finland during the tour
Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Make sure you wear a warm base layer, winter clothes including warm shoes, a hat, mittens, a scarf and woolen socks.
A small amount of walking is involved, you must be able to walk 200m
Please be prepared for limited toilet facilities, there will be a gas station stop during the drive, however the camp itself is in the wild Arctic nature where the only toilet possibilities are in the forest (there are no pre-built facilities).
Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if less than 4 passengers per tour. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund
We provide home-made vegan and gluten free soup
You must travel with travel insurance.
SIGN OUR eWAIVER. We need one participant to sign it on behalf of the group making sure that the names of all participants are in the document.
Cancellation Policy
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

5.00We had a very good experience on the Wandering Owl aurora hunt. It felt like we were in safe hands with our tour guide and driver, and plan behind our excursion was clearly communicated to us. The team seemed dedicated to giving us the best chance of seeing the aurora, and fortunately for us this paid off and we got to see some impressive lights streaming across the sky.

5.00The experience we had was something spectacular. Everything was very nicely planned and after pick-up in front of a hotel, we got a nice introduction by Fabien and Vítek, who took care of us the whole time. All the story-telling about aurora, FAQ, drive, food, bonfire and the little things like "Excuse me if I am looking into my phone. I just need to look into several apps and connect it with our local experience in order to ensure you all have the best experience." was simply amazing. The only thing we regret was that we will not get more of those delicious cookies. Unless, we go again, which we totally would! Thank you both! A certainly recommended to anyone, who wants to see aurora in a smaller group of people with an individual approach by organizers.

5.00Have travelled the world and had many great guides but Jordan from Wandering Owl trumped the lot. His persona, skill, care and attention to detail was exemplary. What an evening we all had, the northern lights did their part but Jordan’s reaction to them and his enthusiasm made the evening even more special. His photographs will hang on the wall forever! From the moment he introduced himself I knew we were in safe hands. A credit to the industry.

5.00On a rainy night in Tromso, We had to drive for 2 hrs towards Finland to find the lights- it was worth it when we got there. We saw lots! Our guide Fabien was dedicated & enthusiastic & keen to explain & answer any questions about the Aurora, & our driver Vitek was nice. It was a shame that we ended up with quite a few coaches etc but it didn't actually affect us & I guess is inevitable on rainy / cloudy nights. The soup was very good! And the photos are cool. Thank you 🙏

5.00The guys at Wandering Owl went above and beyond to allow us to see the Northern Lights in very challenging conditions. It was cloudy with some light snow but they kept going travelling deeper into the countryside until the clouds parted and it all just happened around us.
