Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this activity, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal. During your Aurora Hunt activity you'll become a citizen scientist and collect data for our Tundra Restoration Project. You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, which are provided for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
Relax by the fire with hot chocolate before being returned back to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team of Aurora Hunters will do their best, every night of the season.

A fantastic night! We drove north for better visibility and set up in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains.Even without the northern lights the sky would have been amazing, but we got lucky with lights that danced across the entire sky. Johann, our guide, did a great job with pictures while also telling us lots of interesting science and history. The food was great, the vans were comfortable- all around just a wonderful experience.

I would like to thank you to our tour guide for his excellent services and being so knowledgeable. Although yesterday the weather is foggy, he tried his best to locate the best spot for see the northern light for us. However, weather is unpredictable, we cannot see the northern light but we all appreciate his professional skills and experiences. I rate the tour a 5 stars.

Last night we joined the Wandering Owl team of Erica (guide) and Lucas (driver) on a Northern lights hunt. The forecast wasn't great and we weren't expecting much. Luckily, the team knew what to look for an where to look. Less than an hour from Tromso, we found a beach with lights that got increasingly strong. We got photo help, and Erica was shooting pro photos. We got a tasty soup, coffee and hot chocolate by the fire Lucas built. They had a tripod i was able to use. We moved to a second location between 2 mountains with the moon peaking over and got another 45 minutes of aurora activity. While very few tours guarantee Aurora sightings, this was worth every penny. We got lucky that the clouds broke and lucky our team trusted their instincts. I would strongly recommend the Wandering Owl team to anyone looking to do a Northern Lights expedition out of Tromso. We got a history lesson of the area, a review of some of the Sami culture, photo help and a link to Erica's photo albums (free to download at web quality), and the ability to purchase high definition images of our night out! If you are looking for a tour in Tromso, and want a good chance of seeing the lights, check out Wandering Owl (we booked through Viator)!
