Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
During our time together in the wilderness, we will collect data for a citizen science project and help protect the Arctic nature through responsible tourism.
Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

I’m an avid photographer and I was worried that on a bus filled with people that I d be rushed. But I never felt rushed. I ended up getting some great shots and moved around a lot to shot different angles.

I saw the lights in 15mns post the trip started!!! It was a wonderful experience and amazing to be guided by Magda and Chris. They were very cheerful and accommodating throughout the trip. It was a very smooth experience end to end. I will highly recommend this tour to anyone. The most amazing aspect of the trip was the guide Magda was very keen to show us the most Aurora activity possible...she was constantly looking up even as we were heading back to our hotel. Her enthusiasm really sparks and made our day. Thank you for everything.

We joined a Northern Lights tour with Wandering Owl, guided by Chris and Magda, and it was truly an amazing experience! Our group of seven traveled in a comfortable van with about 15 people in total — a great size that made the evening feel both friendly and intimate. We made two stops during the night, and the second one was absolutely magical — by a fjord, under a perfectly clear sky filled with stars and dancing auroras. Chris and Magda set up a cozy campfire and served us warm soup and tasty snacks, which made the experience even more special. Both guides were fantastic — friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do. They shared interesting stories and made sure everyone was comfortable and had the chance to enjoy and photograph the lights. We were lucky with the weather, and the Northern Lights were visible throughout the night, shimmering beautifully across the sky. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip. If you’re visiting Tromsø and want to experience the magic of the aurora in a warm and well-organized way, Wandering Owl is the perfect choice!

I travel the world with groups, mainly from the Netherlands. We visit Mental Health Institutes that make a difference, talking innovation, creativity, humane services, peer oriented and inclusive. We visited Oslo and Tromso this time. We closed off our journey with a Chasing the Northern Lights Evening with Wandering Owl. Coen and Evgeni were our dedicated guides. Not only did we see the Northern lights, but we were given a VIP treatment/approach from these two wonderful men. They could be good health care workers for all we know. They were informed, polite, funny, inviting, caring and such nice guys. Not only did we get an amazing Northern Lights Show, but we experienced a great evening, out in the countryside. It was the best finish of our Learning Experience we could ask and wished for. Don't hesitate with booking this company. The served soup was as awesome as their organization. A special thanks for Coen and that's only because he was Dutch. Evgeni, the driver and Northern Lights Spotter, deserves the same credits!

We had the wonderful Chris and Isaac leading our tour, who were very accommodating, enthusiastic and led the all round good vibes. The Aurora was a little weaker than other nights we’ve been lucky enough to see it, however, we still managed to get some stunning photos taken, and were taken to great spots where we could see it unobstructed. The campfire, soup, hot chocolate (also keeping us warm) and specially made biscuits were a nice touch. I also personally appreciated all the facts and knowledge about the area, history and Aurora. Thank you for delivering a wonderful experience that will stay with us for a long time! Matthew & Cynthia

WOW!!...what a fabulous northern lights show I experienced as a solo traveller on this small group tour with Anna, who proved to be a very friendly, experienced, knowlegeable guide. She took care of everything. Thank you so much Anna - great photos too! We stopped at three potentially good viewing places Anna chose on the islands of Kvaloya and Ringvasoya and saw amazing, colourful dancing aurora displays at each! Some solar flares that suddenly burst into the night sky above us were breathtakingly beautiful!! We set up camp at our last stop and I enjoyed learning aurora facts and folklore. The hot soup, hot drink and bikkies were great and I was warm in the suit provided. Linda

Isaac was such a fantastic guide. He provided lots of information on the science of auroras, as well as the Sami mythology and other fun facts. Ended up in two good locations for Aurora viewing and thankfully had a fire both times as well as full suits against the cold. Lots of laughing and stories around the fire were just as enjoyable. Great night and I highly recommend Wandering Owls for a small group trip.
