This experience offers a rare opportunity to participate in a private, formal-style Japanese tea gathering conducted in a quiet, traditional tea room. Unlike crowded tea ceremonies, this intimate setting allows guests to fully engage with the host, the space, and the subtle flow of the Way of Tea.

Guided by the principle of ichiza konryū—creating one harmonious moment together—the gathering emphasizes mindfulness, seasonal beauty, and respectful interaction. Every element, from the garden purification ritual to the shared bowl of thick tea, is carefully arranged to create a calm, immersive experience that reflects the depth of Japanese tea culture.

This is not a performance, but a shared, living tradition—ideal for travelers seeking authenticity, tranquility, and meaningful cultural connection.

What To Expect

Experience an authentic Japanese tea ceremony in a quiet, private setting with only a small number of guests. Inspired by Chaji, the most formal style of tea gathering, this experience offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with the Way of Tea—far from crowded tourist demonstrations. Your visit begins in the garden with a simple purification ritual at the tsukubai, followed by entry into the tea room. Inside, enjoy a carefully guided ceremony that includes a seasonal bento prepared by a professional chef, a traditional charcoal ceremony, and the preparation and sharing of thick tea (koicha) and thin tea (usucha). Seasonal sweets, selected tea utensils, and the tokonoma alcove create a refined atmosphere rooted in mindfulness and harmony. This intimate experience is ideal for guests seeking a calm, respectful, and authentic encounter with Japanese culture. Important Information: - Small-group / private experience - Ages 20+ - Must be able to sit on a tatami mat - Smart casual attire; white socks required - Food allergies cannot be accommodated - Kimono wearing is available as an optional upgrade. • Amazing Japanese tea ceremony

I had a truly wonderful experience at the Japanese tea ceremony, along with delicious lunch and sake. From the moment we arrived, everything felt calm, thoughtful, and beautifully authentic. The host Ruriko was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain each step of the ceremony, which made it both educational and deeply meaningful. I especially appreciated the attention to detail—from the preparation of the matcha to the elegant setting. It was not just an activity, but a peaceful cultural immersion that allowed me to slow down and fully appreciate Japanese traditions. This experience was one of the highlights of my trip, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to connect with Japan’s culture in a meaningful and memorable way. Thank you for such a special and unforgettable experience!

My friends were absolutely delighted with the experience and came out of Ruriko's house glowing. Sadly, I only made the arrangements for my friends to spend time wtih Ruriko. I am bringing more friends in April 2026 and am eager to book an experience as soon as possible.
