Sangeh Traditional Village - Day Tours

Part of the joy of travelling to a new destinations is learning about the culture and lifestyle of the original inhabitants of the land. This Balinese Village tour is more than just a series of photo opportunities, it is an immersive experience into the daily lives of the island’s villagers. You start your day at 8:30 am, when you’re picked-up by one of our professional drivers for your transfer you to the meeting point with your guide. Needless to say, your host belongs to the village and grew up there, and he can’t wait to let you experience the true Balinese Village Life. Set in the quaint and gorgeous Pacung Sangeh Village we will take you off the well beaten tourist track and let you enter into the real life of Balinese villagers. You will be welcomed into a real family compound in the village and be given a tour. During this excursion travellers learn about the family temple, the people who live there and the special celebrations that happen at this magical place. As this is a real home for many families you never know who will be there or what will be happening. There may be children running around or, when you’re lucky, a special ceremony taking place. This all adds to the genuine experience you are taking part in. he Balinese ladies who live in the compound will prepare you a traditional morning tea consisting of Balinese cakes, fruits, fresh coconuts & Bali Kopi. After morning tea you will experience making Canang Sari – the daily offerings made each day by the Balinese Hindus – some ladies make hundreds of these each day. You will create your own beautiful Canang Sari to be used later in the day at your blessing ceremony. For lunch you will visit a village Warung (small local restaurant), which is located amongst the rice fields and serves traditional Balinese and Indonesian dishes. You will get to choose two dishes from the menu and a drink of your choice. Enjoy the endless rice field views and the warm, local hospitality. All of the food is prepared fresh on the spot and can be as spicy or mild as you request. After lunch, you will visit the Village Holy Water site, the only Holy Water site in Bali that has a waterfall and Hidden Canyon. In this sacred site the water is considered to be Holy and hold great cleansing powers. Before entering the Holy Water site you will be dressed in a sarong and a sash. Using the offerings you made earlier today in the village, you receive a traditional blessing at the temple. For those willing to get wet, you can also experience a full cleansing ritual in the Holy Water. This includes visiting the Hidden Canyon and immersing yourself in the waterfall of the Holy Water. Patrons are guided through this practice, something many locals come to the Holy Water site to do often. The Balinese Hindus believe this ritual helps to cure disease and purify the aura and karma of past lives. After your ceremony you will have the chance to change before heading back to your resort/villa.

We had a wonderful experience on this tour with our six and eight year old. Eric was patient and excellent at explaining Balinese traditions and home life. He guided us through the cleansing ceremony, and the kids loved it! Highly recommend this tour, especially for families. A lovely contrast to our resort stay.

This was a truly amazing and unique tour. Eric was wonderful and took us into his home, providing us with an insight into Balinese life, culture, religion and food. We were treated with an array of special sweets and local fruits prepared by his Mother and served by his Aunt. We were then taken to his family’s rice field followed by a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we went to the water temple for a water blessing ceremony. Walking through the waterfalls and caves while being guided through a religious ritual was very special and something I will always remember.

During my Bali trip, I had the opportunity to visit Eric's village to see their way of life. It was a great experience, many experts have heard about how their houses are built. They are very Hindu. Eric explained everything to me in detail. Their sweets and coffee are very special and very tasty. He had prepared lunch for us. We participated in religious rituals in their village. This was a special occasion. An old temple. This event will remain in my memory forever. My friend Eric helped me to do that experience.

This would have to be one of the best cultural experiences in Bali in my opinion. It is very authentic, informative and interesting. Eric is the perfect guide and was happy to answer any questions we had on Balinese culture. Every part of the tour was great but my favourite part was the Water Cleansing Ceremony at the end. Absolutely brilliant experience. Highly recommend.

A fantastic authentic day out. Eric showed us around his village, met his family, his animals and visited his family farm. He shared so much knowledge of his culture. The water purification is a must! The waterfall has been the highlight of my trip with my 2 teenage girls. Lunch was fresh and lovely as well. If you want authentic Bali with no fellow tourists, this is for you.

  • Amazing Balinese Cultural Immersion

The Bali Village experience was outstanding. The opportunity to visit a small village was amazing. Our guide, Eric, was a beautiful human. We visited his family home and were immediately immersed in the deeply spiritual nature of the Balinese way of life. We tasted Baliese traditional breakfast cakes and coffee. Delicious. Eric then explained that their spirituality is not founded in Hinduism per se but in their culture. There behaviour is not directed by doctrine, but community care. The lunch we had was delicious. We had Balinese style dish and a chicken dish (all included). After lunch we took part in a spiritual cleansing ceremony. This was so amazing. The scenery was beautiful and the ceremony itself was deeply moving. We can't stop talking about it and i feel like a better person for the experience. Thank you Balibuddies for a great experience. Wed strongly recommend it to anyone wishing to gain a deeper insight into the island and its history.

My family and I had the best day doing this tour. Eric was an amazing host, sharing his knowledge of Balinese culture, traditions and practices. We loved seeing his family home and learning about his way of life. The standout though was going to the waterfall and having a traditional cleansing ceremony. It was a wonderful experience and something we will all treasure. This tour is a must for everyone when they come to Bali. Thank you once again Eric!

If you want to experience the beautiful and peaceful way the Hindu Balinese live, then this is the tour for you! Our driver, who was amazing, took us to the village, where we were greeted by Eric, our host for the day. We were treated to Indonesian treats and coffee. Eric explained everything about the complex his family live in, how it all works, and how it is set up to Hindu requirements. We met his Mum and Grandma, and his Mum made us the baskets for "canang sari" which are the traditional offering baskets. Eric described what each flower meant, and what order they go in as we made our own. It was fascinating. He also took us to the Village cremation plot and told us about the process of bringing the ashes back to the earth. Then, it was lunch at a traditional Warung, absolutely delicious food. (you get to choose what you want from the menu, included in the price of the tour). After this, we thought it couldn't get any better, yet it did. It was the cleansing and purification ceremony that it central to Hindu religion. Be prepared to get wet and wear traditional dress (provided). Just let yourself go and enjoy the magical process, and scream in the waterfall.!! Eric explained everything on each step of the way. Eric was the most awesome host, he was so attentive and anticipated things before we even knew we needed it. He also went out of his way to take photos and videos on our phone. Just do it! We cannot thank Eric enough for all the effort he and his family went to, to make this an experience you have to do once in your like at least!! Suksma Eric!! Shelley and Stan
