Elevate your summer evenings at the summit! From June 19 to September 7, 2026, your Banff Gondola ticket includes access to Sunset Festival — an alpine celebration featuring live music, tasty bites and chilled drinks for purchase at the summit of Sulphur Mountain.*
Toast the day on the mountaintop — Sunset Festival runs nightly from 6 to 9:30 p.m. this summer.
*In the event of poor weather, the fun moves indoors.

Banff Gondola
Step into an iconic 4-person gondola cabin with expansive windows and enjoy a smooth 8-minute ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain. Along the way, take in spectacular views of the town of Banff, the Bow Valley, and six surrounding mountain ranges. At the summit, soak up 360-degree panoramic vistas. Explore the summit at your own pace with access to scenic walking paths, including the Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk. This self-guided interpretive walkway leads to Sanson’s Peak and the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station, a designated National Historic Site. When it’s time to relax, stop by Castle Mountain Coffee Co. for a drink or snack, or enjoy a full dining experience with reservations at Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen or Sky Bistro, offering elevated Canadian cuisine with unmatched views. The Banff Gondola is serviced year-round by Roam Public Transit – Route 1. Ticketed shuttles run regularly with stops along Banff Avenue. Free shuttles are available May to October.

5.00Such a fun adventure! Very impressed with how easy the public transportation was from Banff and how helpful the staff was to figure that out. And free! The gondola ride’s scenic views were breathtaking.

5.00This was a last minute decision to ride the gondola. We parked for free at the train station and caught the courtesy bus to the admission office. The online apps were indicating that there was very limited availability and the earliest was 2-1/2 hours. We got our tickets directly from the vendor when we arrived. There was plenty of tickets available we were headed up the mountain within 15 minutes. Phenomenal views! Bit cool and windy up there but the views were breathtaking. Decided to have dinner at the all-you-can-eat buffet. Flat rate, great food, fantastic staff. A definite must do when in Banff.

5.00My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Banff Gondola to the lookout on Sulfur Mountain. We were able to ride the free shuttle and arrived at the hub a bit early. We were happy to find out we could exchange our tickets (purchased via TripAdvisor) for an earlier time slot by going to the reception desk inside the building. The ride up/down was truly amazing. Two hours was plenty of time to walk to the summit via the boardwalk and enjoy the beautiful views. Don’t think twice! This is a must do experience!

3.00Super crowded and touristy. Booked online through TripAdvisor but then had to wait in a huge line at the ticket counter anyway to exchange my voucher for actual tickets which defeats the purpose of booking online. They need to have digital tickets. You book your upload time but when you check in you get a ticket for your down time which only gives you a little over an hour on the mountain. You can request a later time if you want subject to availability. The boardwalk to the Cosmoc Ray Station had good views on a clear day but there was a lot of wildfire smoke on the day I went. There are two restaurants at the top plus the Peak Patio which had food and drinks for sale as well as live music in the evening. Line to take the gondola down was very long but moved pretty quickly.
