What To Expect
Wat Mahathat
Wat Mahathat is one of the oldest and most significant temples in the history of Ayutthaya as it housed the Buddha's holy relic. The temple is located in the area of the Ayutthaya Historical Park. where important royal ceremonies of the Ayutthaya era were held.
Historic City of Ayutthaya
The Historic City of Ayutthaya, founded in 1350. The city was attacked and razed by the Burmese army in 1767 who burned the city to the ground and forced the inhabitants to abandon the city. The city was never rebuilt in the same location and remains known today as an extensive archaeological site. Ayutthaya is now an archaeological ruin, characterized by the remains of tall prang (reliquary towers) and Buddhist monasteries of monumental proportions, which give an idea of the city’s past size and the splendor of its architecture.

5.00Our trip to Ayutthaya was fantastic, thanks to our guide Rawat and our driver Pat. We visited the Summer Palace, as well as several historic sites, including Wat Mahathat, where the famous Buddha head entwines in tree roots; Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the former royal temple with its majestic stupas and Wat Phra Mongkhon Bophit. One unplanned stop was the visit to the serene Wat Yai Chaya Mongkol, a local temple that we enjoyed greatly. Each stop was rich in history, meaning and spiritual beauty. Rawat was very passionate about Thai history and heritage. He answered my many questions about Thai culture and architecture with enthusiasm and deep knowledge. Rawat gave us a perfect balance of guidance and space to explore and made sure we were always comfortable. He even offered to take picture of us at unique spots, which we considered extremely thoughtful and kind. Our driver, Pat, was professional, friendly and kind: she made the journey feel safe and smooth. At the end of our trip she even shared with us some info about the Asana Bucha day celebration so that we could join them. This trip was a perfect mix of history, culture, beauty, and warm hospitality. We left with beautiful memories, a deeper appreciation for Thai culture, and hearts full of gratitude. We highly recommend Rawat and Pat.
