Basel Minster

Our discovery will let you travel back in time by exploring the city of Basel and Swiss food. The guide will lead you through Swiss delights and historical events that define the city and Switzerland. Be amazed by the Munster Cathedral and the 500-year-old Roothus (Town Hall) that houses several unique paintings. Make a remarkable memory of observing the iconic Tinguely Fountain. Along the way, you will head directly to a traditional Swiss sweetshop to taste the authentic treats of Switzerland.

Since Switzerland is known for its cheese, you will go beyond the usual tourist destinations in Basel to discover the process of making various kinds of Swiss cheese. Learn from a sommelier and master cheese ager to cherish the mild and strong flavors of young and aged Basel’s cheese. Try the country's pride called Gruyère AOP cheese, including other famous cheeses in Switzerland. Such a great way to get a feel and taste of the city! We thoroughly enjoyed our young guide- and he stuffed us full of tastings from each location. Would definitely recommend!

The tour offered a nice walk through Basel with some historical background and local flavor, but overall it fell short of expectations. We started at the farmer’s market, but only stopped for about two minutes—just enough time to receive a small basket of raspberries for the group. Then we visited an old bakery, followed by a chocolate shop where we tasted six different (delicious) chocolates. Afterward, there was quite a long walk to a small shop reserved for the tour, where we sampled several Swiss cheeses, all of which were excellent accompanied with bottled water. While the guide was wonderful—friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about Basel—the tour itself felt a bit limited for the price. I would have preferred more time exploring the market and enjoying the local atmosphere. The tastings were good, but too few to justify the cost.

The guide was terrific, very friendly and knowledgeable. The chocolate shop had no where to sit standing only. The pasty shop we could not even get into door to see anything. Market place was just ok. Got raspberries. Cheese shop was favorite.

Jean was an amazing tour guide! He guided us thru the history of Basel, including the impressive architecture. We sampled chocolate, pastries, fresh raspberries from the farmer's market, and several types of Swiss cheeses. Everything was delicious and made for a fun day in Basel. Definitely a must-do tour!
