What To Expect
Sagiridai Shop
9:00 On the way, we will make a brief stop at Sagiridai Observatory, which offers a panoramic view of the Yufuin valley.
Chojabaru Visitor Center
10:00 a.m. – Upon arrival at Chojabaru Plateau, you will receive a short lecture, followed by approximately two hours of Nordic walking and forest bathing. The Chojabaru Plateau, located at an elevation of approximately 1,000 meters within Aso-Kuju National Park, boast one of the largest intermediate marshlands in Japan. The area is home to a rich variety of wetland vegetation and serves as an important habitat for waterfowl, leading to its designation as a Ramsar Site in 2005. After a brief lecture on Nordic walking, participants will take a guided stroll along the scenic trails of the Tadewara Marshland. The tour concludes with a rejuvenating forest-bathing experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the healing power of nature.

5.00Some days stay with you long after they end. This was one of them. This was one of them. I was picked up right at the Beppu ferry terminal, and within minutes I felt completely at ease. It never felt like a tour. It felt like spending the day with friends who were proud to share the place they love. The morning on the Chojabaru Plateau was quiet and beautiful. We walked slowly through the forest, breathing cool air, learning about forest bathing, and taking in endless panoramic views. There was a peacefulness there that is difficult to describe — the kind you feel more than see. Crossing the Kokonoe suspension bridge was unforgettable. Standing above the valley, surrounded by vast scenery, I felt very small in the best possible way. Lunch at Bebenko was extraordinary. The Oita Wagyu was one of the finest meals I’ve had anywhere, and meeting the owner made it deeply personal. It wasn’t just lunch — it was a moment of connection. In the afternoon, we visited Yufuin, which felt like stepping into another rhythm of life. Gentle streets, mountain views, and a sense of calm everywhere. What made this day truly special wasn’t just the places, but the kindness, warmth, and care behind every moment. I learned so much. I saw so much. But more importantly, I felt welcomed.
