Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral
Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, built in the late 1880s by French colonists, is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in the largely Buddhist Vietnam. Located in Paris Square, the name Notre Dame was given after the installation of the statue ‘Peaceful Notre Dame’ in 1959. In 1962, the Vatican conferred the Cathedral status as a basilica and gave it the official name of Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. Measuring almost 60 metres in height, the cathedral’s distinctive neo-Romanesque features include the all-red brick façade (which were imported from Marseille), stained glass windows, two bell towers containing six bronze bells that still ring to this day, and a peaceful garden setting in the middle of downtown Ho Chi Minh City District 1.
Central Post Office
The Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh is a beautifully preserved remnant of French colonial times and perhaps the grandest post office in all of Southeast Asia. Located next door to Notre Dame Cathedral, the two cultural sites can be visited together and offers visitors a chance to imagine life in Vietnam during the times of the Indochinese Empire. The building was designed by Alfred Foulhoux and features arched windows and wooden shutters, just as it would have in its heyday in the late 19th Century.

Nothing can make our experience better when we are traveling than a knowledgeable and passionate guide. Peter delivered it! Not only showing us all the sights but also putting everything into context( (history, religion, politics) without ever being biased. Food was excellent and the coffee shop a must!

Saigon was such a beautiful city and our tour guide, Nyun (I), was energetic, knowledgeable, communicated well, and was focused on a positive experience for us. We had a great time.

This is by far the best day tour we had across different countries and regions, because Evelyn, our tour guide, was warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and speaks fluent English. We booked the tour through Viator. Evelyn contacted us via WhatsApp the day before, so we knew when and where to meet up with her when we got off the cruise ship. We were able to adjust our itinerary based on our (4 people) interests and get to spend more time at spots we liked. We skipped the war museum and should have skipped the coffee shop where the Viet Con agents stored weapons underground for the Tet Offensive, which had a strong political component to it. Evelyn explained to us the lunch(included) choices so we were able to choose new entries and skip the usual affair of pho and Banh mi. We were also able to spend time getting coffee beans and instant coffee from the number one Vietnamese coffee brand Trung Nguyen Coffee’s large store, where we also got really good quality iced coffee. We also learned from Evelyn a lot of the practical, real life experiences of the local people. What a precious opportunity!

A great day trip to Ho Chi Minh City with lots of different sites and activities covered including a visit to a Pagoda, local craft shop, independent palace, post office (better than you think) all before a really authentic Vietnamese lunch which was delicious. After lunch a few more stops at a local market and the war history museum before a coffee stop (Egg coffee is definitely worth a try) and then heading back to the port. Our guide Huy was great, good English and a nice personality!

Where do I start? Our day tour with Klang was truly fun and informative. He's got a great sense of humour and very knowledgeable. I wished we were spending more than a day with him as a guide. Definitely coming back to Vietnam. So much history and culture to learn about. I would highly recommend Klang as a tour guide, no dull moment at all. Thanks Klangster 😊

We had a marvelous experience with Win in Saigon yesterday. I can only write a small amount because of limited internet access. I am 87 years old and require a lot of help getting around. Besides Win sharing so much great information about his country he made sure I was safe at all times answered all my questions and made sure I had my dietary needs met which were vegetarian. I give him the highest stars possible for a great job. I highly recommend him as a tour guide. Evangelyn Ramsey NY. USA
