What To Expect
Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon
Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, built in the late 1880s by French colonists, is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in the largely Buddhist Vietnam. Located in Paris Square, the name Notre Dame was given after the installation of the statue ‘Peaceful Notre Dame’ in 1959. In 1962, the Vatican conferred the Cathedral status as a basilica and gave it the official name of Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. Measuring almost 60 metres in height, the cathedral’s distinctive neo-Romanesque features include the all-red brick façade (which were imported from Marseille), stained glass windows, two bell towers containing six bronze bells that still ring to this day, and a peaceful garden setting in the middle of downtown Ho Chi Minh City District 1.
Saigon Central Post Office
The Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh is a beautifully preserved remnant of French colonial times and perhaps the grandest post office in all of Southeast Asia. Located next door to Notre Dame Cathedral, the two cultural sites can be visited together and offers visitors a chance to imagine life in Vietnam during the times of the Indochinese Empire. The building was designed by Alfred Foulhoux and features arched windows and wooden shutters, just as it would have in its heyday in the late 19th Century.

For an Authentic Cruise Tour

5.00We booked a private guided tour during our cruise stop and had a wonderful experience with Peter. His English is excellent, which made everything easy and enjoyable from start to finish. What really stood out was how he customized the day around our interests. He made sure we saw the main highlights, including Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral, Saigon Central Post Office, and Independence Palace. We chose to view the palace from the outside, and Peter was completely flexible with that. We also visited Ba Thien Hau Temple and spent time at Ben Thanh Market where my son wanted to shop for clothes. Peter took him to great spots and helped with interpretation during his clothing purchases, which made the experience smooth and stress free. I had asked if we could try fresh coconut water and sugarcane juice, and he made sure we found authentic local vendors. He even brought us to a small alleyway Vietnamese coffee shop that we never would have found on our own. My husband loved the coffee. I do not drink coffee, so I tried lime juice with condensed milk instead. It was something new and local, and to my surprise, I loved it. Peter was attentive, patient, and genuinely wanted us to have a memorable day. For anyone visiting Ho Chi Minh City on a cruise, I highly recommend this tour. It was the perfect mix of sightseeing, local flavor, and personal touches that made the day special.

5.00This is a very good tour organised by a very reliable company. Our tour guide Shane was excellent and took very good care of us. We were able to tailor the tour to suit our schedule and go at our own pace. Shane was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions easily. Nothing was too much trouble.

5.00This was an unbelievable experience. Our tour guide Den was very knowledgeable and provided excellent information on the history of the war. He took us to enjoy an "egg coffee" which was delicious, he also took us to an authentic Vietnamese restaurant where we enjoyed broken rice. Just awesome.

5.00This was a fabulous trip! Thinh customized the day based on what we wanted to see. We did more than what was on the list. He personally escorted us everywhere while our driver always remained close. He made sure we stayed hydrated with fresh water and even got us to try a new beverage. Thinh made sure to respect our food issues and chose a great restaurant for lunch. He even prevented us from getting pickpocket and found us souvenirs at a great price. His English was exceptional and he really cared about showing us a good time.
